I'm 100% game for an AOAA trip.
Been there probably 7-8 times on my quad. Hell of a place, especially if you're there in time to go across the road before they close the gate. Some of the quad trails are pretty tough...nothing horribly brutal, but definitely beat you up some.
The truck-oriented rock-crawling trails look rough, not sure how comfortable I'd be doing the harder sections in the truck without a winch and lockers. And the mud pits...gotta be careful. I've had my quad up to the headlights, and seen guys submerged to the handlebars. One one of the trails just off the main trial, I saw a lifted Suburban on 35"s buried half-way up his doors, and that wasn't even a bad one. Supposedly the mud pits in the back section can bury a truck up to the windows. Use caution.
I can't do the first or second weekend of March but keep me in the loop and hopefully I can make whatever weekend we decide on. Subscribing to this thread so as to make sure I don't miss out on anything...

Yea, not looking to rock crawl or get stuck, I have no winch installed yet. Those mud pits look sick.

Sounds like a plan.I was there last weekend! What a great place!
I would be happy to coordinate a trip if we had a few people interested in going. I was totally stock at the time I went (265/75r16 tires only) and I was more than fine.

I was up there for a guided Easter Egg Hunt Themed Guided Trail ride in March of last year. It was run by the same folks (Off-road Consulting) that do the guided rides and classes at Rausch Creek.
The ride was great, we were taken through very tight sections for some fresh, new pin-striping, water crossing, mud and rock-covered hill climbing.
The trails were great and the area has some impressive views.
The trails are all shared with quads and motorcycles so the "Full size" refers to car sized and larger vehicles.
It took a bit getting used to having the smaller wheeled vehicles going around. They do zip through fast and you do want to get around blind corners carefully i.e listen for the tell-tale sound of quad and bike motors coming around.
The motorcycle groups don't tend to have communications on them so you have to watch for their hand signals to either their group of riders or to let you know how many of them are coming up.
Sometimes a group of motorcycle riders will trail behind you because they don't have the luxury of having a full sized GPS or NAV screen and are just following you hoping to find their way back to the office or a recognizable trail. I kept worrying about pulling off to the right to letting them pass but the instructor told us to not worry about them, they will pass when they want. No need to get yourself stuck or damaged trying to yield some room for them. Just keep an eye out so you don't hit them.
The price point is great and no one wants to lose the privilege of wheeling in a legally designated area so most folks are very courteous.

I'd like to build a small group first. 2-3 trucks only to go out and scout the trails. It's a pain in the ass to "wing it" on the trails with a convoy of 15+ rigs!
Who would be interested in heading out to do a recon run and to come up with a route for the larger group?
We can plan this for early March.
Then we can plan a forum meet up and run for mid-late April.

I would likely be in for a small group trial-run. I've been to AOAA a bunch of times so I can help with navigation and such on the trails...I have a good sense of what's where.
Early March is out for me unfortunately. Only days I can do are Saturdays: Match 18th or 25th, or April 1st. *Maybe* I can pull off Sunday the 12th of March. *Maybe.*
All that said, I don't want to do anything crazy right off the bat-- this will be my first time wheeling the truck and it's a 3 hour drive home so not trying to push the limits per se.

I never heard of them, but it shouldn't be a long ride for me. I'm basically between Wilkes-Barre and Hazleton.
I've got a HS senior with a lot of stuff going on plus 3 younger ones that are busy, but there's a decent chance I could join in with at least 3 weeks notice for work. I'm in a stock 4R with KO2's. My ideal ride is just getting out in the woods for a bit with little chances of breakage or getting stuck. This thing is the DD/family hauler, so I've got to take care of it.

I'll be overlanding/busy in April, so anytime in May is good for me.
Let's plan for March 25th.
I am not a fan of the crazy trails either. Having been there, the green trails definitely can give you a run for your money so we will not be getting into the crazy stuff.
I think one more person/truck would make a good team to head out.
Anyone else want to commit?
Hopefully May will be our larger "expedition"!
I'm in. What time should we plan to meet? It's about 3-3.5 hours from me depending on stopping for gas and traffic, etc. Maybe a 930/10 AM meet time?

I agree! 4 is a good limit. If one can't make it, we still have three.
Let's plan to meet there at 9am. If anyone in the Phila/lower Bucks wants to meet up that morning and drive out together, I'm down for that.
Also, depending on the weather, I'll probably be camping in the area. Port Cinton is a small town about a 45 min drive south east of AAOA. There is a state forest with some free spots to camp.
If anyone was interested, we could coordinate that as well.
**Big Things to Remember**
Come prepared! Tow straps, basic tools, Fire Extinguisher, etc!
While we are going to be sticking to the Green Trails, these are live trails and the trail we knew last month may be very different. There is a VERY real chance that you may break something on your truck. Be prepared for worst case scenario and have options available to either get your truck home or to a repair shop. While not the closest, I know a very good shop in Horsham PA. If you have AAA Primer, the 200 mile free tow will get you there.
That said, it is unlikely anything will go wrong as long as we are smart out there.
