I am looking into buying a 4 runner but couldn't decide which model to go

SR5 , TRAIL ? OR LIMITED

Money is an issue but if the money is spent worthly I will go for it.


Trail got KDSS , very fancy suspension , but how reliable it is ?

LIMITED got leather seats

SR5 .. best price ..but the suspension ? is that really that bad ?


Anyone with experience please help me ..

most of time I will drive in city , toronto ..a place with a lot of snow in winter

occasionally off load ...very light ...for fun

The TE and Limited both have fancy suspension-just different. I have not heard of any reliability issues with the suspension in either (except when lifted). The SR5 has the same engine, transmission, and basic components as the TE and Limited, without the fancy additions. If you want a nice, old-school body-on-frame SUV without fancy suspension or luxury appointments, the SR5 will suit you fine. The TE is awesome, but hard to find. If you have no intention of doing serious off-roading, the SR5 should be fine. If you need full time 4WD and want luxury features, but still have no intentions of doing serious off-roading, get the Limited.

Best value by far is the SR5 and add the options you want. I got the Trail. Love it and I think it is well worth the extra money but others will disagree. Here in Hawaii, Trail must come with JBL Premium with Nav and moon roof. Did not want these options but I wanted KDSS, locking rear differential and I like the look of the Trail. I was going to upgrade to Katzken leathers but ended up liking the waterproof cloth seats. Bottom line, wasted $4000 to $5000 on unwanted fluff and I'm still happy.

alike people have mentioned above, it really depends on how you are going to use the truck. I chose the SR5 as I personally did not want leather interior and I don't intend to take my 5th Gen off road (that's what my 3rd gen's for) so the SR5 made sense for me.
 
Which model to go? Kind of like blonde, brunette, red. I say test drive all three! Also, as far as reliability.. All 3 models will require maintenance at times, some more than others :D

Have you test drove one with KDSS? Might be a deal breaker after you compare one with and one without. I would think living in Toronto you'd want a Limited, full time 4wd.
 
Pretty difficult to find a trail up here, i mostly see SR5's and limiteds, but they are around...

And do you just stay in the city, or go up north? That makes a huge difference. If cost is an issue, get an sr5 with leather and put new shocks on it. if you want all the frills, get a limited, but is it worth 15k more (after taxes)?
 
Seems silly now but with three kids (12,8 and 17 months) and a dog my hands are usually full so I went with the Limited to get the keyless entry and all the upgrades not to mention that this was the only one in the area that had the third row option in the color I wanted. I was pressed for time as my Avalon was totaled and I needed a replacement car ASAP.

If I was 20yrs younger I would have got the TE or the SR5 with the waterproof interior to meet my surfing needs at the time. Very happy with my choice.
 
Which model? I would start by asking myself why do I want a 4Runner and how do I plan to use it. Based on what you say about your intended uses, a Highlander is probably your best bet. It will get you through the snow and light off-road, and is far more economical. As for 4Runners, your intended uses seem to suggest you do not need a TE. That leaves you with an SR5 or Luxury. If money is an issue or you do not need the options that are bundled with the Luxury, then its an SR5. If you need or really want those bundled options, then it is a Luxury.

Personally, I chose a TE with KDSS because I wanted a highly capable off road vechicle. It does everything I want on the road. It had no problem bashing around bad lands and dessert loaded with guns, ammo and passengers on a recent hunting trip (far better than my former F150 FX-4 when it was stock). Fuel economy, however, is the price for that off-road capability. Hence, my prior suggestion that you might also want to consider a Highlander.

I may be wrong, but isn't the mpg the same for the highlander and 4R?

nope: Highlander 20/25
4Runner 17/22

These may have been revised for 2013 because I thought they were closer as well but with people taking car makers to court for inflated MPG (Honda comes to mind) they look to have revised the stats.

2013 4runner 4WD: 17-21
2013 Highlander 4WD: 17-22 / 2WD 6cyl. 18-24.

Per Fuel Economy

Not a significant difference if he wants 4WD or 2WD V6. IMO
