About to buy an Ultragauge...

I'm interested in buying an Ultragauge but I still have some questions after reading the existing posts which are mostly very old on here.

Where are people mounting them on their 3g's? It comes with a basic mount but of the old posts I've found, it seems like most are using the windshield mount that you have to buy separately. Please post any pictures you may have or feedback on where to mount it.

Basically I want it to accurately monitor engine temps. I already have a glowshift tranny temp gauge since my 97 doesn't have a sensor built in. The biggest selling point to me is the alarm features. I want to set an alarm for engine temp since the built in gauge on these trucks is essentially useless until its too late.

I also have Torque and an obd2 reader but I want something permanent in the vehicle.

They sell two versions, the EM (one I was thinking of buying) and the MX. Based on what I've read, the MX allows you to monitor tranny temp but since I don't have a built in sensor and I already have an external gauge, the MX model seems unnecessary.

Thoughts?

I got the extended flex mount and have mine on the bottom left corner of the windshield. The Ultragauge is awesome and the alarm feature saved my butt once when I had a loose coolant hose causing the coolant to suddenly drain out. Managed to shutoff the engine right away after the alarm.

That is exactly why I want to get it. I figured 90ish bucks is cheap insurance plus it is nice to have a permanent OBD scanner in the vehicle.

So one vote for the windshield mount. Any other takers?

Ive been running one for about a year now and rely on it. I use it to monitor speed (you can adjust for tire size), fuel consumption and a few other gauges. Im about to get a bluetooth OBDII reader and I have Torque installed on my tabled. I have it mounted in the lower left corner of my windshield with the standard mount and it works well. Also, Im pretty sure I got the MX, I will check in the morning.

Actually, I should add...although I like the windshield mount for it's flexibility, the rubber they use for the suction cup gets very hard in the cold. It falls off quite a bit in the winter, or even sometimes in the summer in the extreme heat. I apply a bit of vaseline to the suction cup which helps with the seal, but not always.

Could you show a picture of how you have it mounted in the lower left corner of your windshield using the standard mount? And by standard mount, do you mean the basic mount that it comes with?

I have my UG on the cup holder in the dash of my 96. Makes a great little shelf for it to rest on and it's within easy view.

I've had mine since 2013. I absolutely love it. The alarm feature is why I have it. I move it from vehicle to vehicle. I had a high horsepower sports car and I set the MPH alarm to keep myself in check. For my 4runner that has over 220K miles, I have alarms for coolant and voltage. I also like to see when my truck goes from closed to open loop. I also use the windshield mount. I live in the SF Bay area and it doesn't get too cold where the suction cups falls off. I find that once a year I have to clean it with soap and water and it sticks year round for me. I also love the feature that notifies you if you have a new check engine code even before the CEL light illuminates.

I've had mine for a couple of years now too, bought it for the coolant temp alarm specifically.

I have mounted mine right above the steering column. I made a little aluminum angle bracket and mounted it on the lower instrument cluster trim ring right above the steering column. It sits right in between the tach and speedo. It blocks the lower end of the speedo from about 30km/h and down but I don't mind. Keeps it right in my line of sight and easily reachable.

Sorry, no pics available as she is in storage for the winter. I wish I could put one in my corolla but it's OBD1.

You guys are making me want to switch from ScanGauge to UltraGauge. I love my ScanGauge but the fact that it doesn't have alarm thresholds is pathetic considering they cost more than an UltraGauge. Those lazy bastards haven't updated their product line since what seems like forever. No innovation required to work at ScanGauge apparently.

I have my ultraguage on my windsheildall all the way over to the drivers side door. Its been there for over two years and has never come off. I use it to check voltage and engine temp.

I checked and mine is the EM. Pull the trigger and buy it already, it's an excellent tool.
