About to pull the carpet

I have searched but haven't go the results I need. Just a few basic questions to help me out. I'm taking the carpet out to pressure wash them. Have some stains from previous owner. I do have knowledge in this field as I've done it in another vehicle of mine and I'm pretty savy with autos, but always want to know of unexpected things that I may not see coming.

1) does just the center console have to be removed? Or a good bit of the interior? Pillar trims, seat belts, etc etc
2) where do the air bag sensors sit in the vehicle? If under the seat, do they have to be unplugged or does carpet lay over them?
3) carpet is not connected to the truck liner, correct?

Anything else?

I haven't done this in my 4th gen but in other gens you do have to take out the console. I just want to remind you to disconnect the battery and wait at least 20 minutes for the air bags to discharge. When you disconnect the seats take the bolts out and tip them forward to unclip the various power plugs. Good luck. Would love to see pictures of what lies beneath.

Yes the center console has to come out. It is really easy to remove.

There are two sensors under both, the passenger and driver, seats that need to be unplugged. They are simple clip plugs. Just make sure you don't start the car while those sensors are unplugged otherwise the weight calibration thing in the seats will go haywire and your "red airbag man light" will need to be reset at the dealer.

Are you able to purchase the carpet new, and just replace it. I'd hate to take the entire carpet out, and have the stains remain.

Before you pull it have you tried Folex and a shop vac to get the stains out?

Look at it this way. Anything that touches the carpet (console, panels, seats) will have to be removed. If you have a drill and panel removal tool you can have the carpet out in under an hour.

Check out my stereo install for removal steps and to see what the bare floor looks like. Keep in mind don't follow mine exactly as I gutted the entire interior.

New carpet is around $500-$600 if I remember correctly. I've done this before and carpet looked brand new. If any do remain, they will be hidden from the weather tech mats I'm going to buy

Oh man, I remember that guy. What a douche! Anyway, [MENTION=99304]Deputy[/MENTION], I am very curious to see how this turns out for you. I am the original owner of my '05 SE and I yanked my entire carpet (both front and back pieces) to steam clean them (7 years of children eating, drinking, spilling, puking, coloring... you get the idea. Anyway, the steam cleaning was a huge disappointment and thus, I ended up dropping almost $700.00 on new OEM carpet. I wish I would have thought to pressure wash the carpet OUTSIDE of my runner. Well, regardless, once I installed the new carpet, an entire new set of rules were posted regarding children riding in my Runner. If your pressure washing works, this might make for a FANTASTIC write up!

it works really well and you need to be prepared. you gotta take all the seats out and there are no major sensors there. just watch out for yellow loomed wires and that your rig is made to come apart. that means do not cut anything.

there are some foam pieces and insulation that i remove and glue back after. it will save you in drying time. Just soak it in soap, scrub it and then pressure wash it. there will be a gross brown water that comes out. Make sure you have a large raised area to dry it on or you can deform the shape of it. make sure it is a hot couple of days or you will have a mildewy smelling carpet. While its out scrub floor pan with degreaser to get rid of smells. then spray with scotch guard and febreeze and your done. it take a couple days and is worth it

I've done it before but wanted to make sure there was nothing "hidden" that I should be aware of. Last time water was black while cleaning. I have pallets I'm going to set the carpet on. And I live in Alabama so plenty of heat. Thanks for all the tips

Where are you finding the 4th gen replacement carpet as I'd like to find some for a 2006 limited. Is there a source other than Toyota? Thanks.
