After owning 6 T4R's in the last 20 years, I'm about to pre-order a 2017 Tundra TRD Pro Crewmax, maybe it's a midlife thing, but hoping for the best. I may go back to the 4Runner when they do the re-pop, but we shall see.
That's the plan, although mine will be Super White, also adding a BedRug and a Snugtop Outback topper in Super White. The Tundra TRD PRO just needs a tire upgrade like this one.
Not to concerned about the size as I drive a Ford Super Duty occasionally for work, the newer Tundras have a 38 gallon fuel tank and gas is fairly cheap these days, I will miss the full time 4WD in my T4R but I'll just have to re-learn part time 4WD.I've owned three Tundras in the not so distant past. To set a few expectations...
1) The Tundra is huge and takes some getting used to.
2) The power and ride is awesome, learn about "nannies"
3) With a level and 33 inch tires, mileage sucks. (not too far off the 4Runner)
4) You are giving up a LOT of little things. Anything from lights in the doors, auto up windows, 4 wheel drive systems, fit and finish, non reclining rear seat, roll down window if not crewmax, instrument panel is hard to see, materials...
5) There is zero storage inside the truck
I loved the Tundras I had but didn't love the size outside. The inside was nice I guess. It's funny but just as many Tundra owners are thinking about 4Runners. The one thing I will say, the 4Runner is NOT fast. It's taken a bit of getting used to. I tow two Sea-Doos so I didn't need the Tundra. And parking...no fun. All that said, it's one hell of a truck and if you go into it knowing it's not Toyota's bread and butter, you will love it. It's just fairly far behind the field now. #4 above is what you will begin to notice over time.
