About to purchase Trail Edition (Black)

So I've found what seems like to only Trail Edition in my region (which I'm keeping secret for the time being) and may be making a purchase Saturday morning. It's black with Nav System, KDSS, and roof rack. I'll be adding leather. Beatiful! Let's just see what kind of deal they can give me.

Question: Do all the trims (SR5, TE and Limited) come with the same sound system? I know that the NavSys has a different head unit, but what about speakers and such?

awesome! I too have a blk one. How you gonna do leather? i wish the interior on ours was all blk and not the grey. Needs more aggressive tires too. I'm gonna get ARB rock slider rails when and if they come out.

I don't know if they are the same, but the SR5 and TE come with 8 speaker sound systems as standard. The TE's system has the XM radio standard, but this is an option for the SR5, so I'm assuming the speakers are the same. The Limited system comes with a 15 speaker system as standard fare. A subwoofer sits in the right rear corner panel, where a cubby/storage hole exists in the SR5 and (I'm assuming, as I have not seen one) the TE.

I wish the TE had an option for leather, I would have gone with that one over the SR5. I can understand why they would not have it, but given they already have the seats sitting around, the bolt patterns are the same along with the connections, how hard would it be just to toss a set in at the factory?!

Great choice on the color Black for a TE and wise move getting leather IMO.

My only regret with my 2007 Sport is no leather seats arghh and it bugs me every day.

The dealer offers aftermarket leather installed into any vehicle on the lot. From the research I've done online (forums), a lot of people prefer the quality of aftermarket leather over the actual factory leather.

This particular dealer offers both options (factory & aftermarket), but I'm leaning towards aftermarket. I'm going to see what they quote me on that.

Another dealer I checked with charges $1200 for leather on 2 rows of seats. If these guys aren't willing to work with me, I'm walking away... I'm currently a proud owner of a Black Sand Pearl 2005 Tacoma TRD Sport (which I would be trading in). If the numbers don't feel right, it'll stay that way.

Wish me luck! I'll keep you posted... and just maybe I'll have some pics of my shiny new T4R.

I not 100% certain, but I think the Navi and JBL sound system in all are the same with the upgraded Navi/JBL system (at least for the Trail and Limited). The sound system is excellent-there is no reason to want to change a thing about it in the trail. It easily beat out the sound system I had in my Lexus by far.

How much for the leather upgrade? I'd like to do that, but the last time I did that I wasn't happy with the quality of the leather they used. It felt like cardboard. Let me know how you like it and the cost (and if you know, who made the leather upgrade kit). One thing I like with the Trail stock covers is that in cold weather (and I mean 5 F), they are sure a lot more comfortable than the leather in my wife's Prius without heaters.

Black looks great, bu it sure is a pain to keep clean! But when it is, nothing looks better.

I would do the FACTORY leather without a question! Doing so should have the heaters in the seats included if they just order them normally (can't get factory leather non-heated seats), then just add the control switches (blank spots on center console already exist) Personally it would look nicer and retain more value.

Whelp... I did it! I am now the proud new owner of what I think is the only Trail Edition in Maryland (correct me if Im wrong).

They wanted $1500 for leather, so I opted to purchase without and I'll add it later. $1500 is unreasonable, they can suck it.

Although I will greatly miss my beloved Tacoma, I LOVE this 4Runner! Rides like dream, so smooth! Got the KDSS and Nav, plus roof rack. Nice!

First thing I did when I got home was to remove the plastic floor stopper-thingy that runs accoss the slide-out rear deck so that the rear floor is flush all the way to the seats. It adjusts up and down but neither position was any good for me. I carry a lot of big speaker cabinets around and that raised bump in the floor was not gonna work at all.

The black looks badass. I know its tough to keep clean, but my Tacoma was also Black Sand Pearl... so I've learned to manage.

The stereo system is epic. Big, quality sound. Impressive.

The owners manual is thicker than the bible! The only thing I really need to read up on is how to work all the 4WD controls.

Congratz on the new purchase.

The last 2 vehicles I owned had leather...and to be 100% honest..I don't miss it one bit!

The material on the TE seats seems very durable, looks great and isn't cold even without the heated seats. It's so nice to get in and not worry about a rivet on my pants leaving a scratch or someone else doing it.

Obviously to each his own...good luck with which ever way you decide to go.

Congrats! Enjoy the TE and even better, being the owner of the only one like it in the entire state of MD!

I'm pretty sure I've got the only Red in Okla., if not the only TE as well.

I'll also remove the plastic stop on the cargo slider. I'm thinking they stuck that thing on there as an afterthought after someone thought, "gee, stuff will roll right over the edge into the deep unknown if we don't stick something on there to keep it from happening."

It comes off easily enough. 4 nuts on the underside of the sliding deck. You have to open it a bit (or all the way) to access them. I believe it was a #11 socket that did the job for me. Takes 5 minutes.

Side note: Another thing I like about the truck is that you don't have to remove the rear headrests to fold the seats all the way down flat. They are contoured to fit as long as they are in their downmost position. This is the first vehicle I've owned that has that feature... might not be impressive to some, but it impressed me.
