ABS Disable on older 3rd gens

What's so bad about ABS ? Why disable it ? I'm curious ?

I can only speak about my experience with my 3rd gen ABS.

It sucks on ice and other slippery surfaces. It increases stopping distance substantially.

First day I had it I had to bail out onto a boulevard to avoid hitting the car in front of me at a stop sign.

I disabled mine 3 days after I bought it.

I though in theory abs is good ? Allows you to turn while slamming on brakes, tires don't lock up.

In this case they release the brakes for too long which increases stopping distance.

Wouldn't it be easier to pull the fuse instead of getting into the dash for the bulb? I need to do the same thing.

I'm curious about this, about a year ago me and a buddy of mine were installing my rear suspension but unfortunately my 4runner had fallen off the jackstands due to a miscommunication while lifting and as a result I've had an ABS light on ever since but noticed no issues while driving and or braking until recently. so the ABS system prevents tires from locking up, however mine seem to lock up and I have issues in light rain (roads tend be the most slick at this time) and will skid across the road and its caused me one rear ending and a close second. So should I still go into deleting the ABS? or work on figuring out why the light is on the in the first place (some sort of sensor I'm assuming?) and then go about deleting it properly.

If the light is on it's probably disabled.

ABS does not improve stopping distance.
It only allows you possibly steer while hammering the brakes.

If when you slam on the brakes you don't feel a pulsing in the pedal and hear a weird nose it's probably disabled.

ABS does improve stopping distance in some situations and worsens it in others. ABS does a lot more than just allow steering while braking, but that is one of the major benefits if ABS is used properly. ABS has been a huge/immense benefit to 100% of the driving populace. There are some extremely limited/certain situations with certain/experienced drivers where ABS is counter productive.

I personally like the idea of being able to switch it off if I want to, but I also don't think 95% of the driving public should go without it or be able to switch it off. Just an individual perspective based on my experiences on and off road with ABS.

Just one I quickly found. Again I based my first comment on my experiences I have seen, been involved with, and talked with people. It would appear there is testing data to verify it. Yes, we can all find data to support our position...but scientific data is usually the best to review for pure data.

It decreases the stopping distance on slightly slippery or dry pavement, but increases the stopping distance in snow or gravel.

I'd bet good money that in all circumstances my 2000 4runner would take significantly longer to stop on ALL surface types using ABS.

That's why I disabled it after the first snowfall I used it in.

You have to laugh with me and I totally understand and support you doing what you want. I am a math/science geek so I'm about majority data....I'm teasing just like I would any of my buddies but I have to comment in jest.

DUUUDE!!! You need to park that bad arse thing, call the AP, and show them how your vehicle defies all the scientific data. I bet you could get on Oprah with it, if you told them that bi^%& is from outer space!
