Hi everyone, ok so here is my problem. I have a 94 4runner, I bought it a couple months ago, and never needed to use the ac. Well the weather is warmer now, so i tried, was told to recharge it because it didnt blow cold air. So i recharged it, it does blow cold air, BUT, only when the car in in motion. If i come to a stop sigh or light it blows warm air again, or if i pick my kids up from school and leave it running it also will blow warm air. I wouldn't be making a huge deal about it, but my daughter has a medical condition where she can't tolerate the heat, and she gets very sick and sometimes put in the hospital for heat exhaustion. Please help, any info would be great

if i am going about 5mph it still blows cold air, its only when i come to a complete stop at a light or sign, or when i have to get out of the car to transfer my daughter from her wheelchair to the back seat of the truck.

thats interesting.... i was thinking it had something to do with the radiator behind the grille for the AC and it needed air to move through it but there isnt much air going through at 5mph... im sorry i have no idea on this one. do you have any mechanic friends?

Your problem is very common.
When you come to a stop the idle RPMs are low. The A/C compressor, alt, water pump all work better above idle. If your A/C system is in less than tip-top condition (low on refrigerant, clogged heat exchanger (engine side or cabin side), etc) the effect is more noticeable.

Check that link I posted above. Could be as easy as adjusting a setting. Can't tell you where to adjust, since I haven't done mine yet. But there are some things to check for.
