accessing top of gas tank

I have a gas leak in my 95. I think it's coming from the top area of the tank.
( sender unit ? , gas line ?)

I don't think its the tank itself. Also, it leaks worse when its running.

Is there any way to access or see the top of the tank, without dropping the tank itself ? maybe an acccess door from the top ?

anyone ever take a tank out ? how tough is it ?

if its an easy fix, I'll probably do it, else, it may be time to retire it

It still runs well though - even with the leak

If it's anything like a 1st gen there should be an access panel under the passenger side rear seat. A few screws and you have full access to the tank top, including the fuel pump and sender unit.

Yup, what Pyro said--three screws under the passenger side rear seat and you're in. Dropping the tank isn't a major challenge, either, except the filler- and vent tubes can be tough to break loose. Best of luck!

Your leak is most likely from the the pump/pick-up assy.
They rust out where the metal tubes go into the top mounting plate, creating the leak. The leak is worse when running because the fuel is under pressure.
