It was about 45F this morning outside, though likely 55F in my garage, when I left for work. About 2 mins into my drive, with my coolant gauge about halfway up, I had to change lanes and accelerate pretty quickly and the truck downshifted from what I think was 3rd to first. This made the car rev up under load from about 3k to 5k before it upshifted to 2nd gear.
My first worry was revving like that while still sorta cold. Now obviously my coolant was warming so oil was flowing, so think I'd be ok, but just wanted folks thoughts here. I thought I read somewhere that modern engines pull a lot of timing because the exhaust gas tumble of nonvvti actually helps the car warm up the cats and internals faster, before it feeds timing advance back in once warm. But coulda misread.
My second worry was how unrefined the 1GR-FE feels while at that half-warmed stage. It vibrated more than when warmed up, and sounded a bit louder too. Anyone know if that's likely just the car pulling timing while cold to protect itself better, mixed with cold exhaust noises vs a warm, mellow exhaust? Or do I need to be pretty concerned?
Last - anyone else do this accidentally or intentionally? Was it a nonissue for yall lile I hope?
Thanks!
