ACTUAL fuel Capacity

One of my better tanks was about 325 miles (mostly highway) and I put in slightly over 17 gallons.
5 speed with supercharger and 265 65 70 tires.
Now I have 285 75 16 duratracs. I will test out the all highway trip this weekend from SJ to Sac and back. I imagine I will get maybe 3-5% less (after accounting for tire diameter difference).
On the 285 75 16 around town I get up to about 250-260 miles (corrected) before the fuel light comes on. Typically when I fill up right when the fuel light comes on I'm putting about 16 gallons in.

I just went to the gas pump yesterday and filled it until it overflowed, I put 18.4 gallons in my tank. My needle was a little lower than E with the light on.

i know this thread is old but did you ever find out why? did you try cleaning your maf sensor? that gave me a couple extra mpg after i cleaned mine.

dude, you must have way way overfilled.
- there must be some lead foot drivers on this forum. and i thought i drove fast. im at 270 miles to one tank right now, 55 deg, sea level, and Im about as empty as i really like being. ill let yall know what i fill up to. PS- My gas gauge is well below the E

I usually overfill when I know I'm gonna be driving the 46 miles one way to work in the evening. I run 91 Non-Ethanol gas, and last tank was 354, granted, my cheeks were clenching the duct tape on the seats as I coasted into the station.

I wish non-oxygenated gas were easier to find around here. To make matters worse, they mix something else in there (more ethanol?) during the winter months and I loose about 25% efficiency as a result. That being said, I'm getting about 280 miles on 17.5 gallons currently and it'll probably go up over 300 come summer-gas time.
Also, I've definitely used up all 18.5 gallons that these tanks will hold - ran out of gas in Nebraska (YAWN) and upon fill-up, 18.5 gallons went in the tank before the nozzle automatically stopped!

I find that running ethanol-free gas helps my mileage. I haven't noticed any difference between 87 octane or 93 though (both ethanol-free as well). Why would a higher octane gas give you more mileage? Is the computer advancing the timing with the higher octane gas? I wouldn't think so, since these motors are designed to run on 87 octane NA. And when you say it "sounds like crap", do you mean that the engine is knocking?
On a side note, while ethanol-free gas helps my 4Runner's mileage alot, it does absolutely nothing for my girl's 2012 Honda Civic. Doesn't improve mileage in the slightest. Not that she needs it, she already gets 35mpg on the highway.

I think it is simply because of the higher mileage? Probably burning it better case of the higher octane. Its not knocking when i run 87, cause it dosent do it when i run the 87 nonethanol, it just sounds well, unclean, like its burning the gas dirty?
