Actually Off-Roading '16 T4R- will this set up work?

I think the OP was just asking if the tires would clear off-road with the lift.....

Obviously... any 4runner will work off-road to some extent....

And yes the tires mentioned will clear pretty easy as long as the alignment has enough caster and the plastics are pushed out of the way...

Off-road is a slightly different game in terms of clearance. Just because it works on the road.. does not always mean it will clear off-road under all conditions.

The geometry of the suspension tends to push the wheels forward on compression and reverse towards the body mount on droop. BUT, the tire also requires more clearance as the horizontal centerline at the hub moves up on compression (that is the line that requires the most for and aft clearance in the wheel well). There is also a change in camber as the suspension cycles. Camber will go negative on compression (which helps clearance). It's really hard to conceptualize since everything moves in slight arcs. The bushings also defect more in offroad conditions which can lead to interesting clearance issues.

Better tires and and a good set of skids & rock sliders is where I would start.

You didn't mention which version you are getting (the TRD already has a mild lift). But any of them will do just fine with better tires, so that's where I would start.

Remember that:

• Bigger tires put more stress on the driveline and steering/wheel components.
• Aftermarket suspension = more upkeep.
• Aftermarket suspension = more clunks/noises.
• Without under body armor, no lift will save you from that one tree-stump or large rock.

As mentioned before; before you throw A LOT of money at upgrades, use what you have and build from there. The majority of us got suspension lifts not because we need then, but because we WANT them. You can take a LOT of fun trips for the price of an aftermarket suspension. :frisky:

Whatever rims you pick, realize that if you are seriously offroading, you WILL scrape and damage them. Unless you have the Limited with 20inch rims, a 17inch rim has a lot of tire choices. The factory 20" are pretty much pavement-queen only.

Speaking of tires, keep in mind that a very knobby offroad tire may not serve your needs for daily commuting or inclement weather. Personally I love the Cooper ATP's as they are a nice blend. Served me well on the trail, but comfortable and not very noisy for a daily and long distance driving tire.

I would suggest 2.5 inch spacers/ leveling kit ($250) and 275s KO2s work great. No wheelwell rubbing, minimal control arm rubbing.

Purple Fog Lights

My tires/rims/lift kit is in the works... Thanks guys all for your suggestions. Will go easy with 3 inches, that's enough for now for Hawai'i Island. Also found the amazing 'nox lux black emblems' which I'm super excited about!

One last question, I can't seem to find the answer online anywhere.....

What is your advice for getting purple fog lights? I've seen the Baja Fog Pocket kits in yellow only. I've only seen a vinyl purple film, but I think that'll be too ghetto looking.
