Added: 55w 8000k h11 + 35w 3000k 9006 HIDS

I just put these in last night and I'm going to work on the squirrel finder today, but wanted to go ahead and share.

I had some 6000k HID h11s and the factory fog light bulbs. I took the old 35w ballasts and added new 3000k 9006 bulbs for the fog lights.

The 55w 8000k kit is pretty incredible. I kind of expected there to be more blue than the 6000k, as would be the case if it was still the 35w kit. But it's definitely not. The higher wattage does wash out some color. I don't have before pictures, but you can see them elsewhere. They almost looked dull compared to the new ones.

The old ballasts (now powering the fogs) are cheap ones and they have been running close to 3 years and 50,000 miles. I'm one of those people that drive with their lights on all the time. I actually just leave them in the on position and let the auto-off feature take care of things.

Install was basic, but I just want to note that for some reason the polarity needed to be reversed when I plugged my old ballasts into the factory 9006 fog light harness.

Looks good! I was thinking about going to the 3000k in the fogs too, just installed 4500k in my low beams. I wasn't sure how yellow the 3000k was, but yours look really yellow! Do you have any laminex on there too?

u should try the 55w ballast on that 6000k bulb, it will be more whiter.

No laminex or anything. It's pretty yellow, but the bulbs are new. Maybe they'll turn a little less yellow with time? I don't know. I may go back to the stock fog lights but I'm going to wait and see how it is during night, rain driving.

Wouldn't I need a 55w 6000k bulb? It actually looks more blue in the pictures. In person, I can only see a slight hint of blue.

5k is pure white.

It's different with the higher wattage as it washes out more color. 8000k with 55w is similar to 6000k with 35w. I thought a 5000k bulb wouldn't be "HID" enough.

u can always power the 35w bulbs with 50w ballast. u cant just use 50w bulbs on 35w ballast. its gona turn the 6000k to a 5000k color that gives u the best light output.

Alright I'll try that tomorrow night and take some pictures of it. Never thought of that. You're sure it's not going to blow up the bulbs or anything right? Haha.

Thats exactly what i have sitting in my office waiting to get them done at work.

its not gona blow, depending how long u have had the bulbs for, how often its on, once a bulb reach its age, it gets dimmer, i drive all my 35w bulbs, oem and aftermarket with 50w ballast, sure the life of bulb is lesser, but the output is alot better.

I love how yellow they are. Everything I have read says that yellow is the best for cutting through fog...hense...yellow in the fog lights should do the trick! They are on my list now. Where did you get them from? I got my lowbeams from DDM Tuning.

I'm aware of the color temperature differences for 35w kits. 55w kits do look different however.


Per Google... and DDM Tuning,

"What is the difference between 55w and 35w kits?
Our 55w HID kits are 40% brighter than the standard 35w kits.
The 55W system ballasts are about 1 cm longer than the 35W ballasts.
55w kits tend to wash out some of the color of the HID bulb due to the light output (for example, a 55w 8000k will look similar in color to a 35w 6000k kit)."
