Addicted Offroad's project "Mini-Me"

Truck looks great Addicted (both trucks do for that matter). I'm in the process of helping/convincing my older brother to buy a 1st gen for a field rig (hunting, fishing, towing the boat, etc...), and wondering which engine to look for if the option arises. Got any pics of the motor, and any tips, advice, or "what to watch out for's" you can pass along.
Thanks

22re, 5spd. Only one to bother getting. I personally like the 86-89 IFS rigs to start with. Just as much work goes into a 85, and people think they are plated in gold or something when they sell them.

Great info Addicted, appreciate it :thumb3:

I came across a really clean 89 for $1900 but it has the V6. I really wanted my brother to pull the trigger on it just because of the condition of it, but now based on what you've said, i'm kinda of glad he didn't. Looks like i'm going to be spending quite a bit of time in the "Classic" section doing my homework. Its kinda nice in here :D

Look on the west coast. Even with the shipping one in. If he can find a nice, rust free one, its worth it. Doing body work on a rusty rig will run more than just shipping a rust free one in.

Just got it back from Big Horn Graphics. We made a sticker package for it to keep the 80s theme, but with a twist for the company. Hunter digs it.

I took it back over the Scott at BigHorn Graphics again and we re-did the hood. I dig it now.

I ended up deciding to hold off on the Diamond front for a while. I ended up selling it to a customer for an install and figured I would run with a stock housing until I feel like making the jump.

I added a winch, and built the front 3rd. Spartan locker and 5.29s ready to go.

i saw a 2nd gen 4runner on the freeway this morning, and right under the 4runner logo on the hatch it had your logo. i was like heeeyyyy i know that face from somewhere. then it clicked.

Mini-me grew up this week. I literally haven't taken squat for pics during the actual build process. We've all seen SAS procedure pics, so I won't bore you with those.

FWIW, its running TG 3" rear springs and TG 3" front springs with the 3rd leaf removed. I've never liked how tall the TG 3" front springs are. This puts it level with the rear. I figure its going to settle a couple inches more anyway. I also need to add the winch, a custom set of sliders, and the rear bumper/tire carrier. When its all said and done it should be a low rider.

I pretty much built it in the evenings at the shop after normal work was done. I started wednesday night and finished it with Hunter today and showed him how to completely assemble the front axle.

So far, its now got the 5.29s F&R, Yukon Grizzly in the rear, and Yukon Spartan up front. Dirty 30s, cromoly hub gears, etc.

The duals and 4.7s will be installed sometime in the next couple weeks. Then, we'll start working on a cage, sliders, and the tire carrier.

Here are the after pics.

That thing is amazing. I got an 87 as my first car, but it looked nothing close to that. Has to be one of my favorite 1st gens out there with the color and graphics.
