Adding a Sub and amp to the 97...

Anyone add a sub ? Where is the best placement for both the amp and the speaker ?

A few 3rd gen owners have used the passenger-side rear cargo compartment as the place for subwoofer...no loss in cargo space. I think you can fit an 8"-10" subwoofer in there. The amp is usually attached to the back side of the rear seat...or if small enough, you can put it under the front seats.

JL Audio does make a special box for the 4runner. It is in the same area as above, but bulges out a bit...thus, taking up a small amount of cargo space (but it is still a lot better than putting a big box in the cargo area). You may want to check it out.'

Or you can get the Infinity BassLink...which is quite good from what i hear. It is basically a small self-amplified box that you place in the cargo area.

Amp under the drivers seat and sub in a custom box covering the passenger side wheel well.

i put door hinges into the rear backseat to the subs. i found out that putting in the center has a better sound then putting on the side. you will notice that the size is on one corner than the other. when i first got my subs, i didn't hold it down so it was running everywhere. when it was facing on the left side, you could hear the music on your right. i know it's weird but the sound bounces from the wall. and i put my amp under my passenger seat. since it slopes down alittle which i would want a little venting area which works best for me. wiring is pretty simple. power, RCA (music from headunit), and remote wire which when you start your car, your amp will turn on. if you need help, post the problem here. the hard part for installing is hiding the wires. everything else is easy.
