Hey guys, the wife needs some bottom end in her '99 limited. I wanna get a sub in there for her, probably a single 12", but I don't wanna screw up the cargo area. We go camping at least once a month and we often have the cargo area full. Basically I need some creative installation ideas. Anyone?

wow...noliwan, that setup looks great! how does it sound? Does it make alot of rattle since it's actually attached to the side where your compartment used to be?
I'm with Maiden...just a loose box (custom built) w/ one 12" kenwood 1000, 1 kenwood 1000 amp running mono & @ 1 ohm w/ a 1farad cap. The amp and cap are screwed on the box. very easy to just disconnect and take out to make more room. However i go camping alot too, and never had to take it out. guess it's just how you put stuff in and how you use your roofracks. But, this system is definitely for the young at heart, so for the wife, i would go w/ noliwan's set up. unless she likes back massages like I.

I second that. BEST investment ever!!! I am using it with a JL Audio sub and no rattle whatsoever. I was debating on lining the compartment with dynomat..but i don't have to.
I also took the maglite idea. Looks awesome. I will post pics when I can.

Do you find that the sub box squeaks a bit while driving around? i put that sub box in my truck with a Diamond Audio D6 and i had lotsa problems with ratting...after finally getting the rattling to stop i noticed it squeaks alot while driving.
is that silicone you have around it?

I haven't observed or noticed any squeaking. Where would that be coming from? Like it moving around etc.? Mine is pretty tight up against the wall. I put a line of 3M automotive emblem strength tape on the outer edge of the box and secured it with med thread self tapping screws that are made to grab onto plastic/hard vinyl well. I also noticed that black area behind Noliwan's set-up. It does look like silicone. Hmmm, or maybe that is a layer of dynamat behind the panel. Let's see what he says.

my Qlogic sub box has been nothing but a nightmare. i've butchered it by trying to get it to stop ratting, and butchered the side of my cargo area. it will not stop rattling and squeaking. i wish i just bought the stealthbox but i didn't want to buy a loaded sub box

It sounds as though you might not being using the correct subwoofer for that application. Are you using a Type I sub? I am guessing the sub you are using is too powerful and therefore, causing the rattling. Another thing, maybe your amp is underpowered for your sub, and therefore causing distortion and excessive vibration/rattling of the sub. Just some thoughts.
I am using a sub from JL Audio and am pushing 300watts to it. Solid, hard hitting bass with no rattling. Also, inside my box is a crap load of poly-fill. Why don't you try that?

Those things are expensive! I looked on Crutchfiled and they are $229.00 without the sub or anything. So you could be looking at close to $400.00? There are 2 reviews on there and both say that it rattled excessively. I have been considering a Bazooka Tube. A friend had a Cherokee with one and it sounded pretty good.

Bazooka Tubes are dooooodooooo. You get what you pay for in car audio... You wonder why you can get something like that so cheap... save the money and wait for a little bit and get something worth buying and you'll be much happier.

Alright got my truck back. couldnt' be happier! i got him to move my amps so they are completely out of sight, and i can't see a single wire. love it.
