Adding fish-eye mirror to heated side mirror

I want to add a small (two-inch) convex fish-eye mirror to the drivers side outside mirror. The convex mirror uses a double-sided adhesive pad to attach it to the vehicle mirror.

I've never had heated mirrors and I don't know how hot they get. I would assume the heater doesn't get too hot to soften the adhesive, since summer temperatures are probably higher than the mirror heater? Does the heater defrost the entire mirror surface or just the center area?

If anyone has added a stick-on mirror to their existing mirror, have you had any problems?

I've got them on mine for the last two years and no issues. It would be nice if the Convex mirror got warm too, but alas it doesn't

The entire mirror gets heated.

I have always done it without any issues. However, when you take it off, it could be a PIA as the glue really sticks after a while.

That's the great thing about WD-40, it does an awesome job removing old adhesive residue.

I'm thinking of doing some convex mirrors also, but I don't know what the best position is for them.
Is it best to put them towards the outside top or the inside top?
Any advise?

The best position IMO is the upper outer edge. You don't ever use this area of the mirror.

I concur with your location, that's where I always mount mine.

Well, we're in the minority. 99% of the time, i see it mounted elsewhere.

I was thinking that seems to be the best position since the upper outer edge pretty much shows the sky most of the times anyway.

Yep - I prefer it on the bottom outer edge of the mirror. I find it more convenient there.

Goo Gone or Goof Off also works for removing adhesive.

I agree with the upper outter corner. The Brookstone rectangular wide angle ones are pretty nice too. My buddy's got those, but I think they're pretty pricey though.

:iagree: The safest way to mount them at the corner which you use less. It' upper outside one. I, personally, would never mount those mirrors on my mirror, but if you want to do it, mount it properly. Most drivers mount them at lower outside corner where actually road is visible. For truck drivers it doesn't meter, they have huge mirrors, but for cars and SUV it's important. Just my 2c. Everyone can mount them where they like to.

Get the adjustable ones and mount them in the lower outside corner.

My vote is for the upper outside corner as well. It's out of the way and gives you a good view of the next lane or two (depending on how wide your road is). I've owned a van without rear windows and several SUV's and in each case this was the best position for me, YMMV.

My only gripe with having the convex mirror in the 4Runner in this position is that the mirror housing cuts off a little of the view. Fortunately, it's not an area that matters, unless you're looking for UFO's, but it was distracting at first.

When they are mounted in the lower corner they cut off less view and still works good.

autobahn mirror vs. fish eye

I have used the autobahn mirror for several cars now including my 06 4R Sport. I got rid of the fish eye. Available by searching or some auto specialty places. Made in Germany. More effective than fish eye. Mounts on the inside of the left windshield and allows quicker left side coverage than fish eye. You can change to left lane in emergency with using just the autobahn mirror - clears your left side much quicker as your eye doesn't have to go to the outside mirror. I hate to drive a car without it now. One could still use the fish eye on the right side, esp. if towing, etc.
