I'm back, for good!

Greetings all! After a second long hiatus and just constant lurking, I've revamped my build! I spent all last year recovering from my really bad motorcycle accident in the winter of 2016. Bikes haven't been out of the picture since then, but I've been able to spend more time on the 4runner.

A lot has happened in 2017 and I'll go more in depth about each thing in a separate post.

Made a few changes:

2017
-Safari Snorkel
-Got rid of all my rigids
-Wrapped my truck with a friend Battleship Grey
-added some Orangebox molle window thingies

2018
-Prinsu full rack w/adio3x signature fairing!
-Pro eagle off road jack (death to hi lifts!)
-Icon long travel fronts, to match my rears
-Wedge RTT + Eezi Awn Manta batwing awning

Gracias! I paid about $390 for the vinyl, $20 in misc stuff including claybar & vinyl tools. I highly recommend it, it may be daunting at first, but as soon as you figure out how the vinyl lays, it's real easy. The most time consuming part is taking off all your door panels to get the door handles off. It's def a two person job, do it with a friend that knows cars (my friend that helped me did his tacoma before mine, did it with his wife, fought so much lol). But the vinyl I recommend using is Avery sw900, on the back of the vinyl are these tiny air pockets, so if there's air bubbles, you can literally just press them out without relaying the vinyl. Also we only used a heat gun in 2 spots, the rear quarter panel windows.

Thanks Andrew. That's not as bad as I thought. In my head, I was thinking bending over every curve and ending every panel would be tedious but that doesn't sound like it's the case. Even better about taking the interior panels off being the hardest part...I've had mine off so many times over the past year with interior painting amd audio (actually gutted it past the carpet for the audio install) so that won't be an issue. I'll check the Avery brand vinyl out too. How many sq ft did you end up actually using?

I bought 5x55', more than enough lol. I think I had about 20 feet left, or maybe less, it took me a few tries to get the fender flares right, there's really nothing back there to hold the vinyl in place. I was hair too short on vinyl, was planning on wrapping my girlfriend's corolla without her knowing lol. #TeamBattleship

Diy vinyl wrap!

For anyone interested in doing a vinyl wrap to change things up, it's a lot less intimidating once you learn how to apply the vinyl correctly. I think the hardest part of the whole process isn't challenging, it's more tedious & time consuming more than anything and that's taking off the door panels to get the handles off.

The vinyl I used was Avery SW900 in Gloss Dark Grey. It's very similar to the cement color, just not metallic and it's a little darker. This vinyl is awesome, has little tiny air pockets on the back, helping you squeeze out air bubbles. Also I think a big thing people are intimidated by is using a heat gun. The only time I had to use a heat gun was around the rear quarter panel glass and behind the tail lamps, nothing too tricky.

I paid about $400 for 5'x55' had about 15 feet leftover.

Note to anyone plastidipping your rigs..........DON'T DO IT lol.

Most of it came off in big chunks, but everything else sucked. The hood was so bad that I just went down to the bare metal.

Prep your paint, use water and detailing soap to clean the surface. Go back over it with detailer and claybar to pickup all debris.

It's def a two person job, work with someone who knows cars, do not work with a loved one or significant other lol. I was told it could temporarily put your relationship in an uneasy state haha.

And breaking all these clips...... (FYI don't buy these from the dealership, they cost about 25 cents a clip, I bought 100 clips for $5 on ebay lol).

I have to say....that is an impressive job! I cant even imagine the amount of work getting the truck prepped (stripping wax, removing body pieces, etc, etc)

Amazing dude! Cant get enough of those pics. Lol. That color looks so perfect, and even better, the gloss has the same higher quality look of paint too. I love plastidip but would get tired of people asking when you were going to "finish" it (looks like primer)...at least in black.

Funny that you posted the warning about plastidip too. I was just watching videos today of some horror stories on how people were having a hard time getting back there paint after dipping. Most appear to be from coating too thin or mixing dips but still annoying.

In all fairness, ive seen a few paint peeling issues from vinyl wraps too, some of which were installed by shops and shouldve been applied correctly, but figure that it's way less likely compared to PD.

Appreciate the dimensions too. Gives me ideas....

Thanks!!! I was actually surprised to the condition of the paint after I peeled the dip off, I was super worried cause I used a small mixture of paint thinner in a few spots to correct tears, but the paint was perfect!! Looked and felt exactly the same as before I put the dip on, still waxy! I'm not too worried how my paint looks at this point lol, I'm never going to sell this thing haha.

I forgot to add, the biggest thing I was worried about is how the vinyl would be affected while wheeling, especially in Missouri where it's all heavily wooded forest trails. Did absolutely nothing, no scratches or tears!! branches would literally just glide off the dip.

Some new thangs! Planning for my 10 day excursion out west. If anyone wants to join, will be doing some trails in Moab May 18-22!

Finally got around to mounting my new awning! Got a hell of a deal, even though I had to drive 6 hours to go get it, on an Eezi Awn 270 Manta bat wing. Originally tried to use the Eezi Awn mounts on the prinsu, didn't work. With a little help from a few members, pulled the trigger on some Rhino Rack awning mounts. Had to drill a couple extra holes, but it all worked out great! Wedge RTT going on soon!
