adjusting idle

When I come to a stop light or stop sign my 4Runner starts shaking and rattling really bad (after I'm already stopped.) After going from neutral to drive a couple of times I have figured out that this goes hand in hand with the RPM. When stopped in drive the truck idles at about 550-600 RPM and shakes like a crack-head that needs a fix and when I put it into neutral the RPMs go up about 100-150 and the truck settles down.

Im thinking its a motor/tranny mount, but since I'm in no position to be replacing a motor mount I want to raise the idle just a bit so that I will still idle at a safe RPM but enough so that it won't rattle so bad. How can I adjust the idle?

You really shouldnt change the idle and you cant without messing with the Throttle postion sensor.

it sounds like you need to clean the carbon deposits out of the throttle body and attached sensors. i had the same problem and after cleaning, the engine is silky smooth.

I already cleaned out the throttle body and IAC valve but have yet to do the MAF. When I cleaned the other two it didn't make any difference at all.

The idle is computer controlled so you cant adjust it. Are you sure you dont have a misfire or something making the engine run bad? You really dont see motor/trans mounts go bad in these things

Sucks about the idle. It doesn't really seem like the engine is running bad, it just shakes the whole 4Runner. It's definately not a misfire and the truck runs top notch except for at this RPM. I have cleaned the TB and IAC and replaced the spark plugs.

you have another issue then. Idle should be 600-750 rpm I think. It should also be smooth

Idle around 600 is where its at in drive when stopped and shakes like crazy. When I move it to park or nuetral is goes up to 700-750 and runs very smooth.
