Yes, they can be quite lazy once they are done racing. We've had Archie for 6 years now. Getting up there in age, but still runs around for 15 minutes then crashes for hours. Favorite thing to do is hang out under our daughter's high chair at meal time! And good for you for adopting one of these guys!

Sorry to bump the thread. I am looking at a 4R and I have two boys, both are greyhounds. We currently use my wife's 325iT wagon to transport them, but I wanted to know if they will have more room in a gen 4 4R?
I looked up the cargo capacity with the seats down and I found it is 74 cu/ft versus the Bimmer's 57. I want to be sure they both have their room to lay down and have their personal space.
These are our second and third greys. Our first, a female, lived to be almost 15 years old (!). She loved travelling with us and saw both oceans.
Here are out fellas:
Rupert (Atacosita Bloke)
and Bret (Breathtaking)
Both are 5. Rupert is 65#, a rough and tumble little dude. Very much a protector, he's smart and likes to figure stuff out. He learned to unlock and open a dog door, lever-handled bedroom doors, and unlocked sliding doors. Bret is 72# and all hippie. He would rather sit in the sun with the breeze blowing through his ears while staring at trees. After our alpha-dominant female, these guys are goofy and hilarious as hell.

Dane's are awesome! We used to live near a Dane rescue near Charlotte and it was great fun to watch a huge group of those giants playing and running in a horse pasture.
Italian greyhounds are almost the exact opposite of regular greyhounds. The regulars are very calm, pleasant dispositioned, and easy to maintain. Italian greys are a bit overbred and can be difficult.
It's pretty interesting to research the records of a retired grey. There are racing videos of them, race notes and grades, lineage records that go back over 100 years and so on. I grew around bird dogs, but I enjoy the greyhounds more. It still impresses me to watch them run.

I can answer this perfectly as I now have 2 greyhounds and a 4th gen. However, we have our rear seats up as we've also got 2 girls in car seat.
My greys are muzzled every trip due to the male getting annoyed with the female and snapping at her when she steps on him. They both have room to lay down, but just barely. For the record my male is 74 lbs and my female is 55.
They never get angry with each other unless in the back of the 4runner.

You were right, we adopted Kiowa By Italy.
Her father sired 1944 (yes One thousand, nine hundred and forty four) pups.
He was quite the lucky pooch, and quite the runner also.

Very much appreciated! There are space issues sometimes in the wagon if they step on each other.

True 2 are better. We never kennel ours, even when gone for hours and they do fine. They stay in the same place on the couch until the front door opens and they're here to greet us. Our fawn greyhound is a smiler. He looks like he is snarling and about to rip your face off... but it's his ugly smile.

My wife finds Greyhound only kennels locally. Just checked one out and I was almost jealous! It was nicer than the cabin we are trying in the mountains over the holiday.
I work from home, my wife does 50/50, so this is the first time we will be apart from them in nearly 2 years. We only used grey-only kennels or homes with our first and it worked great.
Our parti brindle loves hanging his head out the wagon, into the wind. He gets all crazy-eyed while doing it and a lot of cars point and laugh as they pass. People must think we're crazy with all the auto racing association decals on the back of the car and two greys fantasy running out the rear windows.
