Adventure trailer recommendation WA area

I'm going to be leaving the military in March and doing a great drive from Anchorage, Alaska where I'm stationed to Long Island, New York. We're going to be taking a lot of stops along the way and most will be out of the way of the A to B fastest route. Because well be driving down to San Diego to visit a friend, well be driving through Washinton and I know there are a bunch of companies there that build and sell adventure trailers.

So my question is: Does anyone have any experience or recommendations for companies that make these trailers for me to research? Pictures of the storage space and any kitchen setups (pull out grills with small countertop space) would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Any trailer purchase of mine is a ways off at best but have been looking at CVT in Bend, Or. and VMI in Bellingham, Wa. tentatively, partly because they are fairly close geographically and build basic trailers. Also absolutely love the Turtleback Getaway and even playing with Canadian Pesos their lower-end models are "somewhat affordable". I don't know how much you are planning to spend but I was surprised how much one of these things cost.

There's also boards like these and classified ads, there may be people out there selling nice ones used but no idea?

Awsome I'll send him a message thanks. And I will, were planning on doing a ton of sightseeing and stuff you dont find on "what do tourists do in X state" web sites lol. Knowing people outside places were driving through would be a huge benefit.

I've researched this to death since I've been in the market for a trailer as well. I guess the real question is what type of trailer are you looking for. Adventure trailer vs teardrop, m416 tub style vs expedition style like Turtleback, what type of amenities and features and most importantly price range. Also a lot of these trailers have 4-6 month wait times.

I have no idea as to quality and first-hand experience of course, have just been on web sites saying ooh and ahh to myself.

I may never have one actually, my situation is uncertain (long story, nothing bad) with parking, etc. For the next couple of years or so it's a 2-person tent and an organized cargo area, some other gear on a roof rack.

If you want a kitchen you can go as basic or as luxurious as you want, it's simply a function of paying. Some of these things get pretty heavy too so weight will be a consideration. Batteries and power distribution is also a benefit of having one but solar or some other charging would be necessary of course. You just need to match your bank account with your dream and make a phone call to the right people.

Am fairly sure that you could trust a Turtleback in whatever configuration you get, that's what I'd love to have. The CVTs look really solid also, the Primal Outdoors Channel uses one full-time and makes some of the most well-done YouTube overlanding movies around IMHO. Patriot makes lovely stuff but your nose will bleed if you look at the web site, they're in OK though. There are probably numerous custom trailer builders in the Pacific Northwest alone so lots of research is in order.

Wish I could be more help but I'm nothing but a full-on wannabe at this point. Best of luck with the project and the fantastic trip!

This is my trailer, patterned on the classic US Military M-416 style that many companies copy. Full suspension, roof top tent, awning, 20 gal water tank, articulating hitch, electric brakes and so on.

Lots of new high end trailers go for more than $20K but you can get something used that is likely to have actually seen much use. Some people try them and then decide it is not for them.

I just purchased a Taxa Tigermoth not to long ago and so far have been happy with it. Might be something worth checking out. It kind of falls into a teardrop style but not quite. From my understanding there are some dealers up in the the Pacific Northwest that carry them. They have a considerable amount of storage both inside and out too.

I honestly started by looking at "adventure trailers" but the price was pretty hard to stomach. Soon my attention went to used military trailers (which these are based on), m416 and m100 in particular. I ended up with an m416 that I found on Craigslist, completely refurbished. Another place to find them is on Facebook, there is a dedicated group for m416 and m100 trailers for sale and also where people will post up build threads/ideas. I believe I saw a post recently of a decent looking one up in Washington about a week ago.

So far I have swapped the axle to run Toyota wheels, built custom fenders, and it is currently at a metal fab shop getting an adjustable RTT rack built on it that my wife and I designed. All this and I'll still be under $5k for simple but completely overbuilt "adventure trailer".

As for kitchen stuff, I just store a folding table and camping stove in the trailer. I have a fridge I keep plugged in the truck since I have all of the trailer storage now, but I do know of people who have completely wired and built out those things on the military trailers. I completely get the idea of the "adventure trailer" and have it be plug and play, but I couldn't spend $20k for my needs. If I was looking at those I would certainly look into TAXA trailers, Opus trailers and Black Series trailers (although Opus and Black Series sell out of California)
