While changing my oil I noticed one of my Energy Suspension front sway bar brackets was bent and dangling by one loose bolt. Took both off to assess the damage; one is totally mangled, the other is still okay but does show wear where the washers dug into it, likely because it was loose too. Worse, the bolts were installed upside down(facing up w/ nut on top), because it was easier to hold the nut with a wrench and ratchet the bolt head from below, but this meant when it all came loose I lost the bolt somewhere on the road. Thankfully both bushings were still there, so not a total loss.
Energy Suspension did send me a replacement bracket as a warranty part, I appreciate that, and some washers but I need to replace the bolt and nut.
After looking at oem brackets vs these ES ones, ideally I would reuse the oem; they seem to be stronger And have the nut welded on so no vibration loosening, which is what I think did the ES bracket in. Problem is I think I tossed my oem brackets, stupid, and no local yards have any right now. So, my questions include:
>How can I make sure this doesn't happen again?
>I bought some threadlocker, will that help?
>The ES washers barely cover the holes in the brackets, should I buy some wider ones when I get a replacement bolt?
>From your experience, should I eventually go back to some oem brackets or will these ones work, as long as they are secure?
