Advice on buying 2008 V8

I've been looking for a V8 runner for awhile now with no luck. One just popped up about 20 miles away, but it's a bit out of my price range. I might be able to spring it, but it seems more expensive than the few I've seen and wanted to get a second take on the price. It could be because it's a few years newer.

It's a 2008 very clean red sport edition V8 103k miles
Has the JBL sound system, AC115v and all the other buttons next to the center dif lock.
Dynapro ATM tires with good tread.
No rust (very minor spot here and there on the undercarriage)

They're asking $18,900
What do you guys think is a fair price on something like that? Kelly blue book said between 17,5 and 18,5 but I don't know how accurate KBB is.

18900 is higher, I would try to get them to come down by at least $1500 - but only if the timing belt and water pump have been changed.

Yeah see if you can work them down a little, and make sure that the timing belt and water pump is taken care of before you buy.

Just called them and he said he has no record of timing belt or water pump being changed.
Is this one to walk away from, or try to deal?

Try to deal!

Just try to negotiate the timing belt service in, or use it to lower the price if you want to tackle the service yourself.

Both if they wont come down on price... Assume the timing belt and water pump service is $1k, then you need to make sure and buy the truck at the market price. (less 1k of course) Another one will show up if you can't get the deal to go on this one.

Thanks for all the help friends. I'm going to head down there tomorrow after I secure funds and see if they'll come down more. I've not bought a car from a dealer before, do they tend to come down more for cash deals?

I was always under the impression that they would come down for cash money, but the last dealer I tried to deal with told me that they would have been more able to negotiate had I financed through them. He said that they get rebates and incentive because of the financing rather than the cash. Now, I don't know how true this is, but that's what he told me.

If timing belts not done they are about $2500 high. Try to negotiate but I've never had much luck with dealers either and always buy private party.

This is pretty much why I didn't go with a V8. I got sick of looking at 4Runners that had basically zero maintenance besides oil changes, had timing belt/water pump changes overdue by many thousands of miles, and people that wanted KBB "excellent" price for their rig and would not negotiate. And supposedly according to most of them a timing belt job at Toyota with OEM parts costs "about $200-300." HAH!

Anyway, it's tough, because it seems most people aren't willing to do basic required maintenance to their vehicles these days, but still expect to get absolute top dollar when they sell it.

If you are trading in you have some room to negotiate. I talked down the Toyota dealer I got mine from $2200. A local dealer by my house had this for sale on Monday.
