Advice on fixing a broken AC vent lever after installing a portable GPS?

Hi,

I installed a portable GPS on the center right AC vent on the bottom lever (the middle one has the tab you pivot up and down. Unfortunately the lever snapped on the left side but is still connected on the right side.

The GPS is stable and usable but I was just wondering if there is an easy fix? It does not pivot with the other 2 AC levers. I did a google search and a search on here but didn’t see anything.

Just replace the whole vent:

1. Get the part number from the Toyota parts web site (Toyota Parts Center Online | Genuine Parts & Accessories)

2. Do a google search for that part number.

Often you can find miscellaneous Toyota parts either on Ebay (used) or Amazon (new) at a discount from what you will pay at your Toyota dealer.

Did you break part of the vent or just the little tab that moves the vent left/right and up/down?

If it's just the tab, google venttabs. It's a company that sells almost exact looking tabs and they just pop on (I just got one since somehow the one on the passenger side busted and no idea where the one part went). If a vent slot broke then you need a new vent. Also toyota doesn't sell those tabs separate, need a new vent if you want the factory one.

Side note, no idea what the normal temp is for you, but always be careful with electronics and vents. I know when I had my heat going all out in the winter it would warm my phone up too much when I mounted it to a vent (running gps and xm app in my last car) and it would have to shut off to cool down some). Not sure how the gps will hold up or if it will overheat.

After you fix it, get a proclip that snaps into where the vent meets the dash. I've been using one for a while and its solid. See link below.
