advice on painting rims

I'm buying new rims this june once i have my money saved up, however in the mean time im looking for a quick fix for my silver rims

i just plasti dipped my spare in black and im really feeling the look, however i know plasti dip probably isnt the best to make it till june for all 4 rims

What kind of paint (s) will i need to buy or use to get a good enough base on it and keep it from chipping/etc for a few months

I used krylon satin black with a nice coat of krylon primer. I also sanded the crap out of the clear coat. I spent a total of 37 bucks. They hold up pretty well until they get scraped off road. But if they do it's an easy touch up job.

Some of my friends have painted their wheels. None of them held up and they regreted doing it. They look terrible when the paint starts peeling off. Just wait till you get your new rims. If you sell your old rims they will be worth more not painted.

Mine aren't peeling and I don't regret it. Have had them painted for over a year now.......I get compliments on them all the time.

id plasti dip em for now, pretty easy to touch up and you can always peel it off if need be. Painting seems to require A LOT more work. And I have read a lot of posts about them chipping.

Here is a post on a detailing forum I belong to from a guy who just added wheel repair/repaint to his detailing service. Pretty informative and the outcome is awesome. Like Zach said, it can be done and done well, just do some research and take your time, his look great in person.

Don't paint! Plasti-Dip em....peel it off in June, and sell them to get some money back.

I have painted 4 sets of OEM wheels using the Duplicolor and Rustoleum wheel paints. I sanded them down to remove all the rash, then primer, then base coat and clear coat. They have all turned out great if you follow the instructions. I wouldn't go painting your stock wheels if they are in great shape, it's almost a waste of a good wheel. If your stock wheels show their age and are marked up, then I say go for it.
