Advice on purchase of 2008 4Runner Sport Edition

Hi There,

I just found a 2008 4Runner Sport Edition with 26,500 miles for sale for
$25,998.00 with no accidents on it's record.. This is not from a toyota dealership but from a Carmax... Seems like a good deal but I have never purchased from a Carmax before.. Any thoughts or advice on the price and on Carmax, I would greatly appreciate it.

I got my 2007 V8 SE new in January of 2008 for $26.5k - you can do better. It's nearly 4 years old.

Sounds like an ok price. I would have it checked over by a local Toyota place. Most of them will do a pre-purchase inspection for a couple hundred dollars. It's good peace of mind before spending that much money. Also, get the VIN number and go register at the Toyota Owners website. It'll let you see any service history done at Toyota dealerships.

The price of used cars has gone up as the dollar has weakened. More people are buying slightly used cars and fewer are buying new cars. I just had to replace my 2007 4Runner that was totaled. I bought the recent 2007 4Runner for basically the same price that I paid for my wrecked 2007 4Runner 2 years ago. It sucks, but that's what is out there. At least in my area. Maybe it's different in other parts of the country.

That's what I was thinking when I saw the price - but when I poked around I saw 2008 and 2009 4runners for 28-32 g's with 40,000 + miles. That's why when I saw this one - I had to run here and see what you guys thought...

Sounds a little high for a 2WD.
I just bought 9/2011 a 2008 SR5 4WD with 32,000 miles and a few nice options for 23,899. Excellent interior and exterior.
I do agree with you that the 2008's, V-6/V-8 4WD's with less then 38,000 miles are right at $25,000.

At the end of August I pick up my 2008 Sport with 49K miles for 25K but it was Toyota Certified.. Clean with newer AT tires.

What does the carfax show? Local car? Auction out of state car? Flood car?

New?!? Sport?? That's CRAZY. Is that the price after your trade or are you confusing it with a Camry or something? (Or was yours a 2wd also? If so, I take back the previous few statements... lol)

Nope. Brand new, no trade-in, yes a sport w/ moon-roof and V8. Dealer wanted to move inventory and we paid cash. It was like 29k when all said and done between gas guzzler fee and other BS taxes.
