AFE air filter / MPG increase?

I've read some reviews that Tundra owners loss MPG upon use.

Any other suggestions to increase MPG other than tire inflation and driving habits?

Sorry man. Unless you want to put your 4Runner on a diet and lose several hundred pounds worth of seats and interior, and run super skinny tires and lower the body to the ground, there's really nothing out there. CAI, Cat-back exhaust, premium fuel, mysterious chips and other magic potions won't work as well as proper inflation and good driving habits. Now, if you use ethanol free fuel you will see an increase in mpg. Unfortunately, the additional cost of the fuel negates any efficiency savings.

Unfortunately the waist size of my 4R is what it is and will not be decreasing.

I run that filter, have had it now for about 10,000 miles. I put it in because I like the no mess cleaning of the dry filers. Zero gain in MPG.

I try to replace parts with better than stock when it is time, so far I like this air filter.

I have that filter as well, no change in gas mileage for me either but I think it is worth the cost since I can wash it out and still don't have to oil it. Used a discount code and bought through auto anything.

No change in MPG.....but it does give this really cool whistle at a certain RPM, makes me think I have a supercharger for a split second, worth every penny for that feeling! :car:

Notice any increase of HP or torque in certain RPM ranges? I assume there would be no noticable change but figured I'd ask.

Thanks to all for the responses. I think I will pick one up when it's time for the next filter change just for the sake of having a reusable one.

Not that I really noticed. My mind/body would like to think there is a minor change, but I can't say there is.

The OEM filter is just fine for normal applications, meaning it keeps out the bugs, clumps and small rocks. When you are filtering anything keep in mind the resistance to flow that is inherent to a filter. A vehicle needs a compromise, meaning able to filter down to "X" particle size and not restricting air flow. You could get a filter that would filter the smallest dust particles but it would starve the combustion cycle of much needed air flow, and not enough air flow will ultimately mean more fuel consumption. The key to any filter is keeping it clean, either by replacement or cleaning. So, is it better? Probably not, but it's a mod I guess.

So I replaced the air filter with the AFE Pro Dry S today and everything seems fine, tight fit etc. When I start the engine the maintenance light flashes for a min or so and goes out. Anyone else experience this with the AFE? Any issues that I need to be concerned with?

When was your last 5k maintenance check?

Maintenance light flashing at start up is a reminder and just means you are coming up on your 5k check since it was last reset.It is most likely a coincidence that you just replaced your filter and not related.

I reset the maintenance light prior to my last oil change as it was set to go off every 5k. I skipped the tire rotation because I got new tires. I just had the oil changed and tires replaced about 1k miles ago but the maintenance light was not on at that time. Perhaps it's off schedule? I'll reset it and see what happens.
