After market headlight assemblies and better lights

I don’t think the projectors are size specific,the letters might just be something the manufacturer uses for production dates etc. but I’d verify with Lightwerkz.

Did you have to clearance the brackets to clear the projector bowls? There are slight differences in bowl design compared to the Morimotos but the bolt patterns should be the same.

Careful with the towel,someone on a Taco forum apparently set the towel he had in the oven on fire while baking a headlight.

Good to know, I can't find any info on driver/passenger anywhere so I'll assume you're right. As long as they are stepped for LHD.

Yes I suspect the casting dimensions might be a little tighter on the Morimoto's so it was some pretty minor shaping of the brackets in 4 places to get it to sit flush on the mounting flange and get 4 bolts through it.

if you used oem housing, i dont think there is alot of work involved. towel in the oven is all bad, you can just set the lights on the rack, just make sure its not the lens on the rack. 250 for 10 mins is all you need.

I'm just picking about the amount of work it is, I never thought I'd do a retrofit due to how complex a full custom one could be. I'm a nut and bolt kinda guy, shaping/fitting and epoxy scare me.

Don't worry with the towel guys! 200 degrees, damp towel NOT resting on the heating element, 10 minutes makes it nice and steamed. The Eagle Eyes back housing plastic seemed to get pretty soft so I didn't want to set it straight on the rack.


I should be able to reassemble them tonight, figure out the bulb holders, how to seal around the bulbs, then just waiting on d2s-amp adapters for reinstall Thursday! Thanks again for everyone's help!

Thanks for all the input guys! I got G5-R projectors (seemed like a good value on a quick YouTube end review run), morimoto bulbs, brackets, and high beam splitters from lightwerkz on the way. I'm going to do the swap on my OEM housings since they are on the work bench already, just need to fix one tab. Then I'll decide which d2s to amp adapters I need when I get closer to install and reuse my existing ballasts. Oh and clear wrap the lenses. Should put me into this project for around $250 plus the aftermarket sport lights I bought and am running now. I could sell those or do another retro for fun!

Too late for me now but looks like G5-EX would have been a better buy, same bolt pattern, no threaded shaft but who cares for bracket mount, especially with the sale they just put out, story of my life lol

Thanks for the response, I just saw the sale on their site today. Looks like I should pull the trigger now and save some bucks. What splitter did you order for the high beams? I want to run both the bi-xenons and the led's I have in the high beam housing now, I am assuming you did the same thing?
I'll have to get on the horn with lightwerkz and have them sanity check my parts/plans.

So the headlight casings on my 2008 Ltd are done. They've yellowed and gotten nasty, and I've twice had them professionally resurfaced/polished/cleaned/etc. It lasted for a few months, and the second time I had it warrantied as it was under a year, but I'm not up for doing it again.

Besides, I've been meaning to get better headlights at some point anyway, and I'm not willing to pay $300 per assembly for Toyota OEM headlight assemblies!

What I'm looking for:

Prefer different styles -- I think some of the black aftermarket ones look awesome
Prefer "eyelids" -- the lights that run along top or bottom of the main lights and serve as daytime runners
Prefer much greater range when using normal, non-high beam headlights.


Suggestions?

Surprised no one mentioned them but I bought the Spec-D headlights from Amazon for like $170 Can. Has everything your looking for and have been going strong for over a year.

Only minus is having H1 headlights and highbeams but you can find a good halogen or LED replacement. Havnt done this yet, on the list.

I used "Eagle Eyes" brand housings with only minor fitting issues. I ended up grinding some tabs off the projectors themselves but all the bolt holes lined up to fit g5-r projectors in adapter bracket just fine.

They were adjusted wayyyy low when I installed them. This is a 2" drop at 25 feet on a fairly level surface (wavy back yard) but I'd like to get a more uniform surface to dial them in better, I do think they are slightly too high now but no flashed this morning on the way into work.

do 3 for your lifted truck, if you started at 2, its still too high.

Agreed. My headlight height measured at the projector itself is about 43" (super rough measurement on sod). I set at 41" at the fence at 25 feet, I'll lower them a tad on a better measuring surface.
