Aftermarket alarm, Anti-Theft/Immob. help... (surf content)

Hey guys

I didn't plan on my first post here being this type of thread (ill do a proper introduction in my build/intro thread when I get a chance)

Anyways, I am a proud new owner of a 1998 Hilux Surf SSR-G and couldn't be happier.

However I do have one issue. There is a aftermarket Hornet alarm system installed in it (two button one way remote). Long story short after picking it up from its inspection to make it road worthy, I could not for the life of me shut this thing up... I ended up cutting the siren off (extremely annoying sound at midnight) ound: and later found a short causing it not to turn off.

I want to remove this piece of junk entirely :fencing:

If I am correct the wiring should be the same as a 1998 limited???

The issue I am having is when I unplug the brain of the hornet alarm system. The truck can not be started (try to turn it over nothing happens, everything else works fine). I am not sure if this model has a immob. (did not come with a chipped key). My thinking is the harness of the alarm is tied into the starter/anti theft unit and if I trace it back and reconnect it should fix my issue?

Im hoping to get a bit of insight before I cut anything else...

Im not the best with wiring so Im not sure where to go from here as a side note when the door is closed I hear a slight pinging noise? something to do with that alarm module. I just want to rip it out!:AK47:

It might be the same as a 1998 Limited, but I doubt it. Aftermarket alarms are a pain in the ass to diagnose if you are not the guy who installed it. I would try to get a wiring manual for your 1998 Surf. Also try the HiluxSurf.co.uk forum.

Ok thanks for the reply, Im may have a friend help out with this to speed it up. Ill try and find the wiring diagram, I did find it hard to find stuff about the Hilux Surf. I know for the most part a lot of things are the same. As far as I know there is no immob. unit in this vehicle.

Ok I've tracked down the wiring diagram for the 4runner, finding one for the hilux is a bit difficult so I'm sifting through that.

That "clicking" noise I am referring to when I shut the doors sounds like a relay or the ecu. But the thing about that is it can be stopped by turning the key to "on" and pressing what I believe is a valet switch (see picture below). This is not factory is it? Any insight?

thats funny its a 98 but it has the fat lip and clear headlights and corner markers, and its the jdm style clear without the secondary reflector.

Yeah I thought the same too, then I looked at its production month. It was a late 1998, I believe it was manufacture in November if that has anything to do with it.

Ok so this might be a bit of a unique issue due to the model of the truck.

I need help identifying a part

The slight clicking seems to be a a relay/ ecu coming from the left side of the dash (so right of the steering wheel for you guys). The clicking can be turned off with key to "on" and press of the aftermarket valet switch.

I think it's the body ecu or main ecu or a relay.

Any ideas.

Didn't feel like spending the time to work out the wiring of the crappy previously installed alarm so I worked it into the deal I got for the install of my remote car starter.
