Aftermarket alarm removal; back to stock.

Hey all,

Did some searching with no luck. I have recently purchased an 08 SR5 and it has a god-awful Aftermarket alarm system that I will get off as soon as possible. The only question I had at this point was, is it possible to just remove the alarm and return it too the stock key fob/alarm. I am probably going to have a shop remove it, but I wanted to be armed with info in case they aren't sure. Thanks!

if you dont know what you are doing, just take it to the shop. for a easy fix, its removable, but you can also find the main power lead to the brain and remove the power from it.

if you are removing it. do it yourself. take some pictures of it. post it and tag me on them. i can tell you what to do and not do. it will be obvious under there what is factory and what is not.

also when i do remote starts and alarms, the OEm stays and is never removed. chances are your factory is still in there. just need a remote to go with it.

Yea, I had my way with it yesterday, and luckily the shop that put it in had only cut the ignition wire. Just joined it back up and boom, no aftermarket alarm. Thanks for the assistance though, good to know there is a wide breadth of knowledge on here.

The large majority of alarm systems only splice in between the main ignition wires, everything else is just taps now a days. I usually just use a jumper wire and/or paperclip to jump the splice at the ignition wires to bypass alarms when customers come in complaining about no-starts; saves me a ton of diagnosis time to rule out the relay in the alarm unit failing.

02 4 runner starting issues.

I bought a 02 4runner from auction and it drove while there...when i went to pick it up it wouldnt start.it was an as-is buy so i cant just say i dont want it...long story short i had it towed to my lot. I understand the basic concept that the issue has to be 1 of 4 things, air fuel fire compression....I had a guy come look at it and he just played with the alarm for about 20 mins and then said "oh its a super expensive fix...you should just sell it to me for cheap" based on the way he acted it was a Cheap, Simple (maybe not easy but simple) fix...as i looked into what my issue could be i think everything points to the aftermarket alarm that is on the vehicle... and its (red button of death) While this is a crossover year for transponder keys after having TOYOTA read the computer they determined this vehicle did NOT need a transponder and there is no antenna on the ignition....how likely is the issue alarm based...maybe the timing? also we have tried spraying starting fluid in it as well...if it was a fuel issue it would have at least started and dies right? any thought? I dont think i mentioned it but the vehicle cranks but will never turn over...has new started and started relay, ob2 reader has no pending codes and none active. can anyone help

This is a really old thread and I'm assuming you figured it out, but I'll leave this here if anyone stumbles across this. I was jumpstarting my '02 Sport a while back, but the alarm went off when I connected the jumper cables. I read somewhere else that if you unplug a wire under the driver's seat then connect the battery, the alarm won't sound. Well I messed with some of the wires under the seat, and the alarm didn't go off when I reconnected the battery, but the car wouldn't crank over if I tried. Turns out I have some aftermarket alarm installed. So my guess would be that your car wasn't starting because of some bad or loose connections somewhere.
