Aftermarket CD player issue

I can't get my new CD player to power on. I have the correct wiring harness and everything is hooked up right but it still won't power on. I took the CD player to best buy and they have a power source to test it on. Everything worked like a charm. Obviously it's not getting power from my truck. I checked the "ACC" fuse inside the truck and it's fine also. What else could my problem be?

Don't ask for guesses. Troubleshoot it. You need 3 connections at the HU for the HU to power on: 12V+ constant (usually yellow), 12V+ switched (usually red, but sometimes switched with the yellow), and ground (usually black).

So get a test light or DMM and verify each of these at the HU plug.

Or if you prefer: my guess is one of these three is not working.

I am a bit electricly challenged. I really don't know how to work any of that. I will probably end up taking it to someone to look at. Just didnt know if anyone else has had this problem and could share their experience. Thank you for the advice though.

If you wired the radio plug to the aftermarket plug, double-check your wiring. You could have easily put the wrong wires together. I remember when I did mine it was a cluster-f@ck...

Best thing you can do is pull it out and take a pic of the harness laid out you are using ,kind of hard to mix the colors up,red to red ,yellow to yellow,black to black. Does your clock and cig lighter work ?

Everything worked before I took the dash apart. I havent plugged all their connectors back in to check but I would assume so. I will take a picture of the aftermarket harness when I get home but I know for a fact everything is wired right bc it came on when hooked up straight to a battery at best buy.

I did a little more searching today on here and I came accross a post where someone said they always take out the factory amp.. is that a must? Or just something some people do because it isnt used anymore?

You take out the amp because it's a pretty crappy HU that won't sound better without the factory amp in the system. But if it still works, you CAN leave it.

It worked fine before I took the stock HU out. Ill probably yank it out tonight just for good measure. Then I'm going to triple check all my fuses and make sure I didnt miss anything. I wish I knew more about wiring..or should I say ANYthing about wiring.

I did hook the factory HU up the other night so I could have a radio on the way to work but it didnt power on either. I'm fairly sure I screwed something up.

Thanks, I'll do some reading and see if that gives me an idea of what is going on.
