Aftermarket heated seat help...

Hi. I'm sure I saw a thread on here at some point dealing with an aftermarket heated seat kit installation, but I've tried the search function and simply cannot find any reference to it. Maybe I'm losing my mind. If there is such a thread, anybody have a link?

I'm wiring in an aftermarket kit and looking for 2 things: switches that look oem, if possible, and also I want to know if there's a suitable 12V power supply in the centre console...

Anybody know if there's already a wiring harness in there designated for seat heaters in vehicles so-equipped?

PS about to go to about -30C up here in Alberta in the Great White North, so you can understand why all of a sudden seat heaters seem so important... on the plus side, there's plenty of snow all of a sudden, so the driving's fun.

Wow, the search really has hit a new low. I've tried several wordings and couldn't find anything. Thing is, I know that this has been covered quite a few times.

Well for starters, if you don't already have a kit yet, here's a site to help you get started. Most have taken the rocker switches and drilled a hole in the general area of where the factory switches are.

As for wiring, I know my truck already has fuses in place for the heated seats, but I'm not sure what to say about the wiring. I've had my console up and out for cleaning and detailing and noticed that there were a couple of tied off harnesses not plugged into anything. When I do get around to doing this project myself, I would like to tie into one of these harnesses, if possible, for a clean easy install. If you can find a harness for the heated seats, or at least be able to chase the wiring from the fuses in the box under the hood, it'll be a good start.

BTW, anyone with an FSM be able to look this up and find something out?

There have been some previous posts on heated seats. Here's a link to a recent thread entitled "Heated cloth seats". In it, there is a posting by me which has links to even older posts on heated seats for cloth or leather.

I'm in Chicago, so I feel your pain. Unfortunately, I can't afford such a mod. Instead, I recently went to my local Walgreen's drug store and purchased a heated seat pad for car seats. It was $19.99 and has a Hi/Lo/Off switch, and plugs into the 12v socket. So far, it's been working great. My butt and lower back have never been warmer. Wish I'd bought it years ago.

Well, I knew it was cold. No question. But I wasn't interested in spending an additional $10-$15K for a whole lot of options I didn't need, just to get the one that I wanted. Plus I bought a pre-owned unit from the US, and it didn't have the heated seat option.

I suppose we could all buy every vehicle fully-loaded and never need to buy an aftermarket accessory ever. But that just seems a bit daft.

That's just the link I was looking for, or at least it linked to the one that I needed. I think I'll try the empty wiring harness that most closely resembes the one pictures, and see if I have heated seat fuses that will affect the power in that harness. Hadn't thought of that before. I looked at the heated pads, and frankly probably should have bought one instead of dismantling my interior. But so far, so good, I'll post an update if it works...
