Aftermarket Leather...

Re: my aftermarket leather

I'm glad I did the leather in mine although I will probably regret the color choice on those 100 degree days after it is parked outside at the office all day. It was already at the dealer installed when I picked it and had a little brochure about leather care from Toyota which I found kind of odd since leather is not a factory-installed option in the Sport.

I know swoopeno mentioned that leather cost $1200 but he got it for $800. How much did the leather in your sport cost? I know it was already installed when you bought the car, but do you have any idea if it was actually built with the leather at the factory or was that just added by the dealer to make it look nice? Just wondering because that color would look best with silver.

Sport 4Runners come with a charcoal/black interior fabric already.

Lee, the leather looks good!

Yep, I just double checked. I hadn't realized that the plastic seat trim was actually dark gray on the sports with dark charcoal cloth.

I beleive the cost on the sticker was $900. I did not realize it was not a factory option as I had been looking at SR5s, but when I drove the Sport compared to the SR5, I decided it fit my driving style more. I'm not sure where the leather was actually installed, but I don't think it was factory since Toyota's Web site does not list leather as an option on the Sport. My wife had a '98 Accord that we had dealer-installed leather in (via Classic Softtrim - same link msanta posted on page 1 of this thread) and we actually liked it better than the Accords we looked at with the factory installed. It just felt softer and didn't look as shiny. Not sure if it was actually better than factory, but it sure held up well.

There is a difference between Factory leather, Locally installed leather and dealer installed leather. Factory Installed leather comes straight from Japan with leather (most of this leather in the gulf states region is torn out and releathered due to the type of leather), Locally installed leather is installed at the Toyota Vehicle Processing Center. Dealer leather is installed by a third party vendor.

search: 4runner leather seat covers

I recently saw an auction for custom leather seats on ebay. Its a great deal for 375.00. They look like they need to be professionally installed though, because they'll have to replace the existing seat covers. Check it out.

BlkSS1755,

I am only now starting to look into the heated seat option (moving to chicago). I've been told it is almost a necessity, so that option will be coming very soon. I want to purchase the factory switches (there are two open switch bays currently near the DAC switch). I'm not sure if anyone has done this, or if it is even possible, but I'll let you know what I find out.

I live near Chicago and use the seat heaters from November through March.

Check out after-market heaters (if you haven't already). Saw the guy on the Spike TV show "Trucks" install a set. Seemed pretty straight forward.

Check out this link. They have an application for the 03/04 4Runner. Looks to be about $150 per seat.

:iagree: Why would I give my 4Runner to someone for 3-4 days? I like my cloth seats even more now. Leather is nice, but not THAT nice to give up my truck for that period of time!

to reupholster your whole truck.....it would take 3-4 days. i have a friend in the business and he's very good at it. he does big projects for import cars for shows. i don't know how long it takes his shop though. anyone in the chicago area interested?

It's not supposed to take 3-4 days. Professionals are supposed to be able to do it in 3-4 hours. I'll be tackling this with my truck soon. Maybe they thought you were asking how long it would take to ship the seats?

The charcoal leather looks really good. I have a Sport so I'm in the market for leathers. I wasn't a fan of the Toyota leather seats. I've always preferred a tighter wrapped sports car looking/feeling seat. I know, I know, it's a truck...

No, I was driving up there, its not to far from my house. He was very clear. It would take 3-4 busness days to complete the job!
That, to me is a long time, it's only 4 seats, you wouldn't think it would take that long. Turned me right off, thats for sure.

Check number 7 out: Time

After I bought the runner, i had to take it back the next week to get the leather. It took about 5 hours for the leather, 3 hours for lojack and another couple hours for tint... I gave it up for 1.5 days.

3-4 days... .naaaaa - - check your miles before you give it up... they might be joyriding : )

Yeah I think that is way to odd to even bother. Plus I can't go 3-4 days without my car! Some of us need to work!

So did you get the ebay ones? Katzkin? Classic Soft Trim?

I got the ones from eBay. I decided to give them a try since they let you return them if you don't like them (unistalled, that is).
