Aftermarket lower steering shaft?

Hello,

I’m looking to replace the original steering shaft on my 04 Limited. The part number is 45203-35310. OEM is $190 but there are multiple ones online with good ratings for around $30. My only concern would be if the unjoint ever broke, I would lose steering.

Has anyone installed an aftermarket one? Thanks

I bought one on eBay for $25 shipped in September, 2020. So far, so good.

I had a mechanic install it because I couldn’t get the old one out. Cost me ~$145 labor.

The OEM shaft lasted 17 years, I'd just spend the extra on OEM. Keep in mine, this is the only thing connecting your steering wheel to the rack, so if a crappy aftermarket part breaks, you're going to be in a tough situation

Before you buy an aftermarket steering shaft, place one side by side with OEM. I have (I deliver parts for a Toyota dealership) and the difference is sobering. Go OEM.

This is the kind of thing you just have to pony up for OEM. I personally wouldn’t risk it on aftermarket.

I did buy OEM. Just don’t want to chance it for the extra $100

I did a 1AAuto steering shaft. More expensive than the 30$ ones, but when I put it next to the OEM one it was identical to my eye (well, other than the fact the old one was bent, but that's a whole different problem).

In my experience, 1AAuto parts tend to be pretty solid on the whole. I actually would trust their stuff better than a random selection from RockAuto (though if I can get a specific good brand from RA like Moog that's generally best non-OEM option).
