Aftermarket mufflers on 3rd Gens

Hey, so I wanted to start a thread with video/audio clips of YOUR aftermarket muffler

so I want this thread to have
1. Video/audio of your muffler
2.I want to know the exact Model and specs of the muffler you have
3.how much you paid for it and how much it cost to install and where.

and does anyone have a clue what the factory pipe sizes are?

Im looking at selling my Magnaflow with dual out and go with a single out.

Ill start with is not mine but my friends Cherrybomb Vortex to give an example

Yeah, the Borla XR-1 and the Flowmaster 40 above are high on my list,

I like the nice purring of that Flowmaster, and Im partial to them since I had one on my Prelude. again, not sure if I want a dual out with dual pipes

Cherrybomb Vortex. 2.25". Center in offset out.

Around $50 on Ebay and $20 to weld on. Can't beat it for the price.

I just went from six to midnight. That is a beautiful sound. Does it resonate or vibrate oddly at different rpms while driving? Some of those tuner mufflers do that at speed. Again, a great video.

My muffler is in need of replacement, but I want something that sounds like stock! The outer sheet of metal on mine came off a while back, and there's a tiny whole or two in it...

I really like the sound of that cherrybomb vortex! I'm worried that if I went with something like that though, it would be horribly annoying at 70mph on the highway.

What do you guys that have it say? Loud on the highway? Droning?

I can't decide if I like the Borla XR-1 more, or the Vortex. I think I like the XR-1 the most, but I bet the price of the CherryBomb will make me lean the other way.

If you search '4Runner XR-1' on YouTube LINY's videos are the first two. They're definitely worth checking out.

If my 4Runner wasn't a shared vehicle, with my wife driving it more than I now, I'd look at the Borla or CherryBomb. She would definitely NOT like a loud exhaust however.

The XR-1 is two or three times the cost of the Vortex. I personally thought it sounded a little weird when it was really pushed. Around 3,500-4,000 RPM.


After I hit 50 MPH I really can't hear my muffler, especially if the radio is on.

Noob question, What diameter and type of of muffler fits in a 99 3.4L V6? Theres a guy sellin a Magnaflow 2.25 inch Muffler Center/Offset and I was wondering if that'll work. The muffler is 14" and overall is 20". Thanks

That should fit easily. Really anything will fit, just requires more work. The stock piping diameter is 2.25", and the center/offset is what fits the stock exhaust lineup. The 14" aspect of it is fine too...it's a little short, but it's easy to make a shorter muffler fit.

Anyone running a 18" magnaflow on their V6 that has a sound clip or somthing? I found a good deal on one for about $40. Also, it has the 2.25 inlet. Will this fit?

It'll fit, and probably sound great too. You really can't go wrong with Magnaflow on the 3.4's. It's not super aggressive, but it's a quality sound.

THe only muffler I've heard that I don't like is the flowmaster. Magnaflow, Borla, and Cherry Bomb sound good to me. I haven't heard a Dynomax that I know of.

Anyone ever ran a Thrush Welded muffler, I found one that fit easily. I cant find any videos of 4runners with them though

Just installed a 24" Magnaflow 2.5 Center in/ Offset Out with stock piping on my Runner. I love the sound of it!

I would post a sound clip but I don't have a camera to record it right now. It sounds great with the ISR and Deckplate mod too.
