aftermarket navigation plug'n'play

Since I'm not about to fork over several grand to the stealership for a mediocre in-dash nav unit I wondered if anyone knows which units out there are direct plug'n'play for the stock Toyota harness and steering controls.

The two manufactuers that come to mind are Eclipse and Valor (which I believe make the stock Toyota units) but I'm not sure whether the stock units have custom connectors installed by the manufacturers specially for Toyota.

I know you can get steering control interface units to get them to work with any brand, and I know a custom harness only costs about $10, but it would be good to know as I choose a nav unit.

I was wondering the same thing myself.....if anyone has photos of an Eclipse installed, I would greatly appreciate it.

I know Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine etc. systems are not plug and play... they require a steering wheel control interface and custom harness. Not a huge issue, but I'm still curious if there are some that do not require those.

I'm a little confused about the Eclipse units... I know the OEM versions are slightly different than the brand name versions. I've seen a few posts that suggest all Eclipses are plug'n'play for toyotas but then I wondered if that's true for both jbl and non-jbl toyotas, and what about all the other non-toyota car owners that might buy them? Would eclipse just make a unit compatible with one manufacturer's interface?
