Has anyone tried this on a 02 or later model? I've got an 00 and I'm considering this install.
Aftermarket seat heaters; and they fill the blanks too!

First of all I would not settle for "I think" and "probably" for whether an airbag will deploy or not. You may be talking life or death for a warm butt.
Also, I would think that the airbag sensor strips should be able to withstand heat. I mean I doubt the seat heater would get the seat as hot as they do after sitting in the sun all day in a southern state. So I don't see why you cant just put the sensor on top of the element.

Start to finish, how long would you say this project takes to complete?
I just got my order and it was for the Highlander rather than the 4runner. I ordered over the phone and never got a confirmation email or anything. They said they would exchange it for me but my problem is this is the last free weekend for a while and I think this project isn't one to tackle at night after work.
Thoughts? (I assumed the highlander kit would not work...for starters, the switches look different)

I got this kit last December and I would say start to finish it took me about 3 to 4 hours to do. It wasn't too bad and saved me about $300 installation. I was going to have CST do it, but I just did it myself instead. I wish the switches lit up, but oh well, they are pretty much the reason I got this kit over some others... looks more factory than some others.

The leather seat covers gave me some trouble, as I had not worked with hog rings before and I didn't want to remove the entire cover. I did a lot of pushing and shoving to get the heating element under the seat cover (without removing the cover).
I did borrow a hog ring pliers from my brother for the install, but never ended up using it. I got the old ones off, rolled the leather covers up, put the elements in, rolled them back, and used zip ties instead of the hog rings... seemed to work just as well. Its been a year and so far so good. Wiring is easy, getting the dead pedal off was the hardest thing for me. Not sure if there are any tricks or not.

I did the heater install...Things appeared to go fairly well. Heating elements in the seats, switches in the console and power as directed in the instructions. The seats worked pretty well ( I hoped they would be a bit warmer) but then I noticed that my windows didn't work....
The heaters blow the fuse for the windows. I guess that is the wire they have to tap to get power. I bought a few fuses and no matter what I tried, as soon as I connected the seats it blew the fuse.
Another strange thing, the seats stil worked after blowing the window fuse. I thought the whole line would have been dead...
Any/all suggestions welcomed....I'm not sure where to turn next.

Man, I don't know what could've happened. All I can suggest is to re-check your wires and that you tapped into the right ones. Sorry I can't be of more help, but this is the first time I've heard of it. Do you have a multi-meter? Perhaps you should test your wires to see if you tapped into the correct B+ and ACC lines.

Everything OK now.....(3-30amp fuses later). I basically went back and re-checked connections to see when the fuse blew. Final solution was that the bottom heating element on the passenger side was not fully engaged. This apparently shorts the window fuse but still allows power to the seats.
I still cannot understand why the system was working but still blew the fuse. I guess it doesn't matter much now that the seats and windows are both working.
BTW, even with the "bump in the road", I think this is a great mod. The winds were bad in NJ over the weekend and fairly chilly. The seats did a great job in the cool weather. Should be even better on the dark days of Jan and Feb.

My instructions provided an option to have high heat / low heat. This would assign position 1 with a low heat (135 degrees) for seat and lumbar and position 2 would be a warmer setting (145 degrees), versus the default setting of position 1 lumbar only and postition 2 is seat and lumbar. Has anyone cut the blue wires on the modules to access this option?
Well, I just ordered these seat heaters. Should be here early next week, just in time for a Thanksgiving weekend installation. The guys at M&R said that the only thing that was custom to the 2005 model is the switches, and that's why thei web site specifies that it is for 2005 models. Since several of you have installed these on 2004 models, then the switches fit in your console, and I can't imagine that the 2003 switches are different.
