Aftermarket skids

Any tips on removing aftermarket steel skids? I was wondering if a transmission jack or a motorcycle jack will make things easier. I need to change transmission fluid and transfer case fluid.

Absolutely. Even just a normal floor jack would be handy. When I installed my Savage skids, I did it with all four tires on the ground, by myself, and without a jack. Never doing that again.

My Savage skids are 4 piece, so each piece isn't as big. But even then, it's a bit of a wrestling match to hold them up, get them aligned, and put bolts in and started.

I use a floor jack with some 'mechanicking boards' stacked on top. Random scraps of wood I use as a spacer sometimes when doing things other than lifting a car.

Gonna have to drop mine this weekend so I can do a tranny/transfer case drain & fill and hit the drive shafts with some grease. They can definitely use a fresh coat of paint after the beating I put them through a couple summers ago.

Ratchet straps work well.

Floor jack and donut spare out of a smaller car....my skids are two pieces- big and heavy.
