& Again Starting Prob 90 SR5 V6

Newbie to the forum, awesome site. It's a 90 2dr 3.0L V6 5sp. Digging the old girl out of hibernation, spun 2 rod bearings on my daily commuter. It's been sitting for sometime, about 5 yrs. Changed all fluids & new battery, she cranks over like theres no tomorrow but wont fire. A blast of stater spray & she'll run for a second. Checked spark & good. EFI fuse is good. Thinking fuel pump ? Found the fuel pump jumper method at How can you test the fuel pump in a 1991 Toyota 4Runner to make sure it needs to be replaced before dropping the gas tank
Couldn't hear anything under vehicle by gas tank. This old girl has some good rust happening too. What to check next before I drop $290 on a new pump ? Every summer I would charge it & fire it up for a short while, but no go this time.

Check the connections on the tank sending unit/fuel pump. I have seen those so corroded the ground breaks off.

ok I managed to get the tank out, oh what a treat that was. The connections at the pump looked good. I connected the pump directly to the battery +/- terminals & nothing, no sound. So I would say the pump is toasted ?. A new one here is about $280 (Bosch from Crappy Tire) was thinking of putting a used one in. Does anyone know what years of 4R I can use or any other Toyota vehicle ?

Get a new one, you dont want to swap in a used one then have it die a month from now.

While you have the fuel pump out this would be a great time to flush out your fuel tank.

After sitting for five years there's not telling what's rotting in the bottom of the tank.

Not to mention the Ethanol which probably helped kill you fuel pump.

Thanks for the advice, makes sense, why do it twice.
Do you have to replace the gasket between the tank & pump flange or can you use something like the black RTV sealant ?
What's the best to clean out tank, hot soapy water, rinse & air dry ?. The fuel I drained out was very clean, but will do it regardless.
I had to cut the fuel line where the tubing connectors are accessable through the back pass floor. Will most likely have to do the same at the fuel filter, totally rusted. It would be ok to run fuel line instead of tube wouldn't it ?.

If the truck has been sitting for that long I would drain the tank and get a new fuel filter at least. The fuel will separate causing the ethanol and water to sit at the bottom. God i hate ethanol destroys motors and will eat fuel lines and carbs on boats. Phase Separation in Gasoline
