ah...catalytic converter stolen

Sorry guys hate to do this, I know that there are multiple catalytic converter threads. I spent about 45 min. digging through them, and wondered if anyone has some quick answers to help me along my way.

1. 2000 sr5 non cali exhaust, do I need a catalytic converter?
2. They cut it out just after the O2 sensor and i believe the non-cali only has one O2 senor, is that right?
3. Nebraska doesn't have emission testing and im never selling my 4runner so that does not figure into the equation.
4. What do you guys suggest?

1.) it'll run without a cat, doesnt mean you should but it's your call.
2.) they all have two O2 sensors, one before the cat, one after it.
3.) you'd probably be okay without it.
4.) I'd suggest replacing the cat.

Any advice on the type of cat?

Looks like the last owner slapped a new bosal muffler on it before he sold it to me.

1. You'll ALWAYS have a check engine light if you dont have a cat/second 02 sensor
2. You wont have enough back pressure (.5-3 psi of back pressure is NEEDED in order to scavenging to work properly.)
3. Its going to run rich
4. You're killing the environment.
5. Sorry man, sucks to own an import that has easily accessible cats. Thats one reason i lowered my CR-V :D

Its a WUTWC (Warm Up Three Way Catalyst) cat. A universal TWC cat will work fine though. Just make sure you get one with the o2 bung in the right spot, or but a bung and weld it in where ever its needed. You want the cat to be as close to the front of your exhaust as possible. The quicker it warms up, the quicker its going to start working. If you look at newer cars, a lot of them have the cat hanging right off the exhaust manifold.

Just went out and looked at it again.

They left both O2 sensors, just cut out the cat, just gonna buckle down and by a new cat.

Magnaflo for $252 from rockauto
Bosal for $218 from partsgeek
Local stealership wanted $1,600!
Midas $400 to weld in one

LD, I traded my 06' honda civic for a 2000 4runner, the environment hates me already. If mother nature could she would make a virus that only destroyed 4runners. I'm actually suprised I don't get attacked by nature on a daily basis.
