Air Bag Warning Light

The air bag warning light on my 4 runner is on. I recently had my dash replaced through a recall so I thought maybe a connection was loose from that work so I took it in to the local Toyota dealership. All the connections are good so they want $130 to start on a diagnostic. Any ideas that a novice can tackle? Maybe the airbag sensor is bad?

To be honest, airbags are not something a novice should be attempting repairs on. I would consider myself moderately experienced in auto repair, but not airbags. They take things to a new level.
There 7 airbag sensors I think, including the RSCA if you have that and they all feed info into a center airbag sensor assembly.
Take a look at this chart.

It lists all the trouble codes that can occur and that will trigger the warning light. It gets pretty detailed.
Good luck.

Thanks! Do you have a link to that entire manual so I can find the other pages that are referenced under my specific error code (B1148).

Toyota Factory Service and Repair Manual - 2007 4Runner + Updates

This is for 2007 models, but a lot of it is still relevant for others. I had a glance at B1148 and see 'Instrument panel wire' listed as a possible cause for one of the detecting conditions. I wonder if that could be related to your recent dash work.

Thanks again. So these guys tell me my air bag is disabled until the problem is fixed- is this a true statement?

I had my mechanic read my codes and he told me that B1148 is: "Front Right Airbag Sensor" Hope this helps. I believe it is the one near the cross member by the bumper.
