Air Compressor for 4Runner

I am looking for a portable air compressor which can plug directly to my 4runner. I wonder how many PSI is good for the 4Runner?

I found "Craftsman 12 Volt SUV/Truck Compressor/Inflator" model #15044 with 300 PSI at Sears. However, from its description & picture, I didn't see if it has the cigarette Lighter plug or not.

Also, I found "Campbell hausfeld Cordless Air Compressor" at Walmart with 230 PSI and comes with the cigarette lighter plugs.

Which one is better?

Check out the first link (bolded) in my signature. It goes to my new gallery thread for my 4runner. The last post, as of now, is about the compressor combo unit I am thinking about....which coincidentally I saw in the Sears add last weekend. The unit has everything. I am a big fan of convergence and would much rather have one unit that combines all these features.

As to the psi question, I don't know.

this is all relative.

if you plan to have one to air up when you have a flat, then any ol cheap one will do.

if you plan to use it to air up 4 tires after offroading, then make sure you get a $$ one as you'll want one that is close to 100% duty cycle or else it'll take forever filling up. Also the portable ones are prone to overheating too due to heavy useage so factor that in as well.

Yesterday, just in hurry, I bought the "Craftsman 12 Volt SUV/Truck Compressor/Inflator" which turns out to have cigarette-lighter plug. I tried it on one completed flat tire (it has beeb that way since at least 6 months) but it didn't do any good. I tried on the other tire which is have some air in it, then it is good. It was hot while working.


Luxury, The "Xantrex Xpower Powerpack 400 Plus" is the nice combo to have. If I didn't bought my air compressor then I would buy it. It makes me thinking about returning this one...since the powerpack also includes the jump-start function.


About the PSI, I think the more PSI the faster you can pump air into your tires. PSI stands for Pound per Square Inch. It is pressure unit.

psi would prolly measure the maximum pressure the compressor could (eventually) obtain if it didn't overheat.

the higher the cfm (cubic feet per minute) the faster you would air the tire up. dunno if those little guys have a very high cfm. I have one as it was at sam's and I wanted something to jumpstart a car...just happened to have the "air compressor" on it. But I use my larger (garage) air compressor for tires anyways.
