Air Conditioner Issues

I’ve searched the forum for anyone having the same issue which is: the driver side a/c vent does not blow cold air, the passenger side blows noticeably colder. I took it to the dealer and of course they want an arm and a leg to evac. and recharge the system with dye to find a leak, but couldn’t explain why the passenger side blows cold. Has anyone heard of this with the 5th gen or 4Runner in general?

Yeah, it's a thing with Toyotas when they get low on refrigerant.

Just went through the same thing with my 4th gen, had Toyota evac/recharge with dye to trace the leak, but with my mileage/age, it's likely to be the evaporator core.

Once recharged, mine blows colder than ever, so it's definitely a thing.

I'll second that. Had same on my 4th gen. Due to evaporator placement/design when refrigerant gets low one side gets warm first. Had mine replaced and no more problems. I'm hoping the 5th gen isn't going to suffer the same issue as it's a huge job on the 4th gen.

Could maybe be a stuck blend door with any luck. I know I still get outside smells even on recirculation setting so something's not sealing.

I have had both problems - blend door, and low leaky refrigerant. I'd pay to check for leaks first, then fill, then blend door - the blend door was a pia.
