Air conditioning question

The ac in my 2003 4runner only cools down to 52 degrees and it is only 80 degrees outside. The thinner aluminum tube that goes into the firewall is too hot to touch and the thicker tube is ice cold with condensation on it. Is this normal? Thanks.

52 eh? Shouldn't that be 11C :lmao:

52 does sound a bit high. Is that in recirc, lo (temp) and blower on 3? It should pull closer to 40F or about 40-42 vent temp, whichever is lower.

What's tricky is you need two temp gauges, one near the passengers footwell and one in the vent to be accurate about the true temp drop.

What you're feeling, seeing on the lines is normal.

Haha! Good one Chris! I am adapting to the American system. Actually I always liked Imperial. Why we made the switch to metric I don't know. And thanks for the info.

And yes I took the reading from the top vent. Ac on low. Highest fan setting. Doors open to keep the compressor on. Tried recirc and regular. I am tempted to add refrigerant bit it may be overfilled already. My mechanic told me NOT to use the DIY kits as they temp fix the problem but can ruin the ac system. I guess I will get it checked professionally.

I wish it was only 80 degrees around here, it's been freakishly record breaking hot here.
