Air filter and installation

I just came across a tacoma (with 5vzfe) having its air filter installed in the WRONG direction. The owner said the shop installed it. It is backwards. The dirt laden air will bypass the filter and destroy the valves, piston rings and the cylinder bore.

Please check the direction of the air filter inside the air box. The rectangular plastic frame should face towards the engine. It is a good idea to clean the rubber seal inside the air box before you install the filter

Just wanted to share this with the members.

While it's a pretty stupid thing to do (there's an arrow on the filter showing airflow), if it was new when they put it in it's probably not really hurting anything. The sealing surface probably mates up pretty well either way.

Now, if you took a dirty one out, and put it back in backwards, that wouldn't be good.

Give a try, it will fit. The lid is bit hard to close but it is that technician doing it.

I actually did before I posted, I am using a OEM filter and I could not get it to sit down in the filter box backwards. I even gave it some good ol convincing and it wouldn't go without damaging the box.
