just caught this, thanks LINY for dispelling a myth, I dont know what it is, but everytime I hear someone talk bad about the K&N CAI I have to rush to the rescue

and Im like a year late, but still will debate that the K&N CAI will improve horsepower and gas mileage and clean the air better than stock air filters til I die...
Ive had them in every single car I owned and they have responded positively

Yes, i rigged it, cause i was like yeah instead of changing out the busted window regulator in the Discovery, I'll waste my limited time at home and walk around collecting a sh¡ton of acorn's and shove them into my airbox too worsen the performance of my already underpowered SUV.

didnt you see the pics of the acorns that got in the airbox when you use a stock air filter??!??!!
its apparent, that its a MYTH that dust and particles get thru the aftermarkets better than the stock. I will take that challenge every day of every week of every month of every year.
you show me one shred of fact to that myth...

You should get those out of there. I've heard that acorn filters let more dirt into your engine and will foul up your MAF sensor. Even if you don't over oil the acorn filter, you will still screw up your MAF sensor. And even if you clean the MAF sensor every time you clean the acorn filter, it will still get screwed up. The increased throttle response just isn't worth the trade off and acorn filters actually decrease hp according to some dyno tests. Stick with paper filters

Well IMO those open air filters are fine if most of your driving is on the street. But I go off roading once a week, and drive on dusty gravel roads and when I ran my open air filter it was covered with dust in a week. Also water would splash up on it if I hit a puddle too fast! So I went back to OEM

Seriously, how does that happen? My car is parked 80% of the time under a 60-foot 80 year-old pinoak and I find acorns everywhere--sunroof track is a real danger. I heard them pinging the car every few seconds when they were coming down. A month ago the carpet of acorns on the ground was continuous. But I have yet to see a single one inside my airbox--and I just went outside and looked. The stock tube picks up air INSIDE the top of the fender. Plus--I can't be 100% sure--but aren't the acorns on the ENGINE side of the filter? I see the tube going out the back where the MAF is. I don't want to call BS, but isn't there SOMETHING you aren't telling us? uhh...maybe somebody played a joke on you?...if you aren't playing one on us.
EDIT: I just looked at it again. Aren't you missing the door? ...the top flap whose job is to keep acorns out?...and would let unfiltered air go straight to the intake?

WOW some crazy squirl found a sweet place to store his nuts. i laughed when i saw that picture! i could just imagine a squirl climbing up there dropping his nuts in there till its completley full! wow thats just crazy!

Filtration Testing for Amsoil, K&N, Napa, Jackson Racing, Baldwin, and Mazda air filters on a Miata
I can't find the one where the guy modifies a standard test (I believe there is an ASTM for this) and flows some really fine particulate through all of the popular filters and measures the amount of fines they pass. The K&N does not fare very well in this test! :frisky:

It was before the filter, if it was after the filter the truck prolly wouldnt run for more than a couple seconds.
I took the picture close to the airbox, the lid is flipped back, no one played a joke on me, and all the acorn's are before the filter, i feel there is a busted prefilter that the squirells got through.
I don't see why you guys can't grasp the concept of this happening, and anyway i had to vaccumm them all out yesterday, and it was a b¡tch to do.
BTW i have a 96-98 airbox, which i am told is different than the 99+ so keep that in mind when you look at the filters location.

OK, I bow my head in awe to the creativity of CT squirrels. Their NJ brethren love the toolbox under the seat of my tractor, but that's pretty easy to get to compared to this.
