Air Filter question

Took my 4Runner to a shop for an oil change, usually do it myself but once in awhile I use a shop so I can get the tires rotated. Anyway, I looked under the hood a few days later and the air filter clips were undone and I think the air filter is gone.

But there appears to be a filter on the inside of the intake. So is there a permanent secondary filter in there or am I looking at the actual filter?

There is a regular Air Filter and a Hydrocarbon filter as well.

Thanks. That explains it, just wanted to make sure I was seeing the right thing before go in there and demand a new air filter.

Good news is at least there was some kind of filter, bad news is they DID screw up and I drove for a couple weeks with out the main filter.

Make them change out the carbon filter too. That will teach them.

Yep and I wonder why folks let other people touch things important as their 4Runners!

This is why i will change my own oil even if i am 90 years old. Well, probably could not do it at that age, but would have a dealer or high end shop do it instead. Way too many problems with quick lube places.

usually id say go back and demand free future service, but I'm not sure id wanna go back to a place where the "mechanics" forget to put an air filter in...

They gave me a brand new air filter and a card for a free oil change. I think that HC filter saved my arse. I had just driven on some dirt roads, which I rarely do, right before I found the missing filter.

I'd give the HCF a quick vacuum. The air filter keeps that filter pretty clean.

I removed my HCF 7 years ago, never an issue. I kept it just in case MN restarts emission testings again.
