Air flow maintenance

So recently I felt my 4Runner wasn't getting the mpg nor the pickup that she used to have. I filled up with some super and added a some FI cleaner but still didn't feel her get up n go so decided to go further. I followed some steps from the site and removed and cleaned her AFE CAI air filter, MAF sensor and throttle body. I bought MAF cleaner and used it for the MAF and throttle body. I did not remove the throttle body just cleaned it attached. Back in June I went to Rausch creek so I figured things may be a little dirty inside. All in all wasn't bad. Have 52,000 miles, cai was put on in May, never cleaned MAF or TB. Couldn't see much dirt of the MAF but TB was pretty dirty inside. Did disconnect the battery. Have to get the lube for the filter laster today. The air filter took longer to dry than 20 min and today its sunny and 79 degrees.

What improvements should I see in doing this?

Anyone know if you can use KN lube on an AFE filter or should I but the TRD lube from Dealership?

Thanks.

I have used K&N oil on multiple brands of filters with no issues.

Have you replaced the spark-plugs?

Yes, thanx. Replaced in May same time with AFE CAI. Had hope to get better mpg with those changes but didn't happen. Maybe now in cleaning the MAF and Throttle body mpg will go up-hopefully. Will post.
MPG is still better than what I had with my old V8 Grand Cherokee.

I have noticed a drop of about 2 mpg in both my 4runner (V8) and my Vette. My son has a G8 GT and he says his mpg is down also. Normally mpg gets better in the hot weather, but not this year. We suspect that it may be the gas formulation. Maybe they are putting in more ethanol or something.

Same thing here. I believe it has something to do with gas formulation as well. Down about 1mpg on the 4runner. Down about 2mpg on my silverado and feels like I lost power as well. It hurts when you put about 65 miles a day on each vehicle. For selling us crappy gas they sure don't make it any cheaper.

We'll not sure about gas formulation stuff but after cleaning the Air filter, MAF and Throttle body my 4Runner is running SMOOOOTH like butta baby! She rocketed to 80 mph with no scream just smooth, NICE power gain :bravo:.

After a few days or so I'll check the gas gauge, trip pc to see what it says. My driving is erratic at best with some highway driving, New York traffic and local stop n go so mpg is all over the place.

But again she's driving so smooth..........

I got the KN lube to put on the air filter - dont wanna drive it dry.
