Airbags didn't deploy

Yes; I had the exact same experience. I actually sued Toyota USA for $3.5mil because of it, and won. I'm typing this from my Yacht in Dubai.
Is that what you were hoping to hear?
 
Yeah, I think he wanted an Excel spreadsheet with data points specific to his described situation. Maybe he is frustrated, but he came off sounding pretty rude.
 
When I had my crash, I thought my bags went off way too easy. I have had harder impacts in go-karts :ybrick:

:second: That's Strange.... My 4runner was in 2 small accidents prior to me owning it. Air bags where deployed and never repaired....:pout: but looks to have sustained less damage than yours. Only new parts on mine are a poorly welded on brace under the radiator and a new upper control arm on the drivers side.

In my experience, sometimes they do for certain types of impacts, while others surprisingly do not. I think it has something to do with a thrust sensor deciding if it has enough force to deploy.

I will pass this along as something I heard from a veteran EMT and driving school instructor that has stuck with me.

Sun visors. They are either "fully deployed", as in touching the glass of the windshield, or "fully stowed", and nothing in between.

He described the type of injuries that something as innocuous as the sun visor, scalping drivers and breaking noses when they they are only partially pulled down and aimed at the face. Be careful and let your son know this.

I went though EMT school and I cringe whenever I see some passenger riding along with their feet on the dash, or cocked out the window. If a passenger side airbag deploys with your feet in the way, you might not be walking anytime soon. There are lot of bones to break in your feet.

My drivers-ed instructor was an ER nurse and told me the same stories about leaving the sun visor partially down. If i remember one thing from that class, that was it lol. I never thought about the airbag thing, but it makes a lot of sense with how fast those things come out.
 
Sorry about your son's injury but sounds like it could have been worse. Like others have said he probably spun and clipped the wall and kept going instead of a frontal into the wall. I rear ended someone earlier this year but it was ~10 mph so bags didn't go off.

I'm confused how he got a hit on his head while wearing a seat belt? Sounds like he might have his seat adjusted too far forward, which would be bad if the airbag had gone off. My arms are slightly bent to reach the steering wheel, want to keep my distance from those things.
 
Op is probably filing a lawsuit and is looking for other cases to bolster his. As for his son, as a male, forehead scars and a cool pair of sunglasses only help you in life by badassing your image. No matter how stupid you were to get it, ask me how I know
 
There is a chance here that a previous owner of the truck disabled the airbags and removed the bulb in the cluster...

It would also be worth checking if the seatbelt pre-tensioner activated.

They dont deploy below a certain inertia force. Otherwise they'd blow when you shut the hood. Sorry to hear anyone hurt. Was he wearing a seatbelt?

My buddy rocks a huge scar from being stupid and not wearing a helmet. Reminds him everytime he looks in the mirror what a lil b1tch physics can make you. Be grateful everytime you walk away and hope you learn and grow from it. But owning it is a good first step.
