see thats over sensationalizing things... this is the attitude that americans have adopted out of a false fear... there have been zero plane explosions/hijackings since 9/11 using the OLD security methods...
Think about the Israelis, the targets of most of the suicide bombing every year and how many planes have been hijacked from their airports?? well, the security specialists that designed their security say that these scanners dont do anything except invade privacy.
Wait, how can you forget the crotch
and shoe bombers?? They ONLY failed due to incompetence, NOT because the "old security method" worked! The new security screening method would have caught these bombers BEFORE they even reach the airplane. Or are you just hoping that all the terrorists are as incompetent? I would not bet on that!
BTW, it does take some planning (years of training and planning!) to pull off something like 9/11...so, i would not be jumping for joy just yet....
Ahhh...the Israelis argument. True, i read up on their method. Quite effective. You are videotaped everywhere you go in and around the airports...even on the highways leading to the airport. They follow and individually interview the passengers before the flight. Now, based on the answers given, the airport folks can do a thorough search for your body and luggage. Somehow, i got a feeling that these searches may even be worst than TSA's....
How many passengers come and go in Israel? How many airports do they have? Now, compare that to OUR country. Their average annual traffic does not even match one month worth of US air traffic. They have two major airports they cover, we'd have 450+ to cover 24/7...and US folks do fly quite a bit since our country is so large.
What Israel does over there is nearly impossible to do here. Our multi-ethnic population would also be negatively screened.
An excerpt:
When hiring people to do profiling, Yeffet said, they must be qualified staff, "very well educated people" with at least a college education and fluent in English and at least one other language. "We test them always. Anybody who fails is fired. We have no mercy because we are dealing with lives," Yeffet said. "The problem with the TSA is that they don't have experts, they don't have qualified people."
Now, where do you think we can find over 50,000 of these qualified people to screen ALL of our passengers in EVERY airport in the USA?? Our national debt will be even worst! Good luck explaining that to the taxpayers!
Different country, different solution. You can't just use one country's method and think that it will work across the board!
